Brake Failure - Has this happened to you?

Since reading about the incidences of brake failure, I think it would be good to get some numbers on this.

Have your brakes failed? If so, when was your production month/year? Was the problem resolved and if so, what was done to resolve it?

Thanks!

I haven't read any posts regarding brake failures.

Has this happened to you? What year, model and mileage MINI you have?
Can you give any specifics about the problem?

Can you post some links to these discussions?

I haven't taken delivery of MCS as yet. As it will be a January '05 production, I am hoping for mid-Feb. to early March, but, the brake failure problem is one that is especially worrisome, thus my post.

Here are a few threads at Mini2 that I saw:

Thanks for inquiring!

There are 3 brake systems (4 if you count the tranny). 2 of the systems are a part of the normal brakes. If a brake line ruptures, you have the other 2 wheels to stop with. If the normal brakes fail, you have cable brakes via the e/hand brake.

The breaking system, not only in the MINI, but ALL modern day cars is diagonal, in other words has parallel systems that support each other in case of subssesive failure. This is what is known as a "Fail Safe System".

I have 2 MINIs, (2004 MCS with 13K miles and 2002 Cooper CVT with 25K+ miles) and neither car has ever experienced any sort of brake related problems.

Our local Mini/MINI club has about 25 members with new BMW MINIs and neither has ever complained about thier brakes in the 2+ years I have known them and thier cars.

Sorry, it is not a common problem.

I am really glad it is not a common problem. I think it is a problem that should never exist or happen at all, but some owners have experienced something that raises my concern. I do hope that at least one of the owners that experienced an incident of brake failure gets to the reason why it happened. It is an issue that is much more grave than a rattle, a misalignment, foam coming out of the seat, etc.. All of these are bothersome, but they are not life threatening.

where did you read/hear about this brake problem?
I spend way too much time on these message boards and I read pretty much every single thread about problems. In the past couple of years, I have never read a single incidence of brake failure.

Maybe you meant to ask about parking brakes, not brakes?

Okay, got it.
I myself would be interested in finding out how many people actually have experienced brake failure then....
