JB+ too much for used Countryman

Question for the forum. I have a 2011 countryman ALL4 with 68000miles. I purchased a JB + for it and really enjoyed the added power. However 1 week after I installed it my valve cover developed and leak and had to be replaced. Now a week after that I find a giant puddle of coolent under my car, guessing it's my water pump based on location. Is the added stress from the JB+ overwhelming my aging systems or am I just that unlucky?

Coincidence or you are pushing it harder and causing the weak points to fail. Pretty hard to prove.

Fair point and really it's hard to say. I've only had this Mini for 3 months, I've driven it the same since I got it but I dont know how the first owner treated her. There were no obvious signs to worry me but $1700 in repairs in 3 months has me concerned.

It's just bad luck, there are tons and tons of JB+ out there with no problems. Even cars like mine, that are tuned aggressively, way beyond what a JB+ can do, are running extremely well. Unfortunately, Mini's are not built like Hondas or Toyotas, so they tend to need more care and preventive maintenance.

If that's the first time the water pump has been changed you got some good mileage out of it. Minis are high maintenance.

So the water pump was the original plastic piece? You got lucky if that's the case. The replacement should have a metal housing. Be sure to monitor your water level in the expansion tank regularly in case anything starts leaking you'll see it there.

20/20 hindsight. Hopefully the new metal one will last longer. Plastic thermostat, who knows. :(
