Noises from 2005 r53... Am I just paranoid????
I just bought a 2005 MCS about a month ago with 111k on it. It was a 4 owner car and that's not the best but it's okay. I have been hearing the clutch noises when released in nuetral and the ticking or knocking sound from the engine. My clutch also grabs quite high. Do I need a new clutch? Should I replace my supercharger oil? Is it just paranoia? I need help because I don't wanna ruin anything nor do I have money to fix anything. Just trying to have a good time with this one since my 2003 mcs was totaled the day after I bought it by a drunk driver about 2 months ago. I don't want a dud

*UPDATE*
I was at a stop light and I started to go then BAMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! I though someone fired a dam canon next to me. My clutch blew up on me... Yay! Not. But its a blessing in descise. First I roll my truck 3 times because the tire burst and I roll down a hill then the mini now this. Bad things happen in 3 they say... Let's hope so for god sake... So hopefully $1500 or so latest I'll be ready to go. I plan the go with the valeo kit with the SMF but we will see.... Let's just hope it was the clutch. I was able to rev it and put it into gear without the clutch depressed. Just wanna say thank you all for your help! And hope for my sake that bad things happen in 3 not like 4 or 5... I just want a good car... For once

The noise that changes depending on clutch seems to be widely reported and related to the throwout bearing or dual-mass flywheel and could be benign (?).
Knocking could be a bunch of things, and I'm hunting for one in my R53 as well. Check the belt tensioner (shouldn't be bouncing) and the engine mount. Others can chime in with more stuff to check (I'm all ears

I'd guess your dual mass flywheel is making the noise. My original clutch (365,000 miles) made the "chewbacca" noise for most of its life with no issues at all. It goes away when clutch is pressed? Or if in neutral and you let out the clutch very, very slowly it sometimes goes away?
The ticking, like HCF said, could be a lot of things. Get a long screwdriver, or bar, and place it on the motor where you think the noise is coming from and place your ear on the other end. Kind of a stethoscope. Be careful where you place it, belts etc, and don't get your hair caught in anything. It well help you narrow down the culprit. If noise is on the passenger side, likely a tensioner or idler pulley, if on center/drivers side, likely water pump gears on supercharger.

These cars are loud cars. I came from a 135 and my other car is an M3 so I was paranoid all the time too. Now I think it adds character and I love it!
My race car driver buddy who has had his for awhile just says "I ain't gonna fix it until it doesn't move or I see a light." That's generally a good attitude to have with these. It keeps me sane at least

LOL...my sanity depends on at least knowing where noises are coming from. I'll be eventually going end-to-end checking exhaust hangers, paneling, heat shields, dash, etc. Lots of rattles, I'll probably have an experience like ItsmeWayne had where it's a bunch of little things...
