Best place to buy parts??

Have been checking some of the websites, and the one I want to use, seems to be charging quite a bit.

$140 for shipping?!?!?! you kidding me? Its a bunch of gaskets/hardware/water pump/etc. Nothing big or super heavy.

Any places do a discount for military? I hate being a cheap ***, but spending $1400 and then another $140 for shipping is crazy to me.

Here is what I need

Bentley Manual
Timing tool kit
Valeo Flywheel/clutch and guide tube
Powerflex CAB
Complete Engine Gasket Kit (oil pan, headgasket, S/C gaskets, crankshaft, front, rear, valve cover gasket, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, etc)
Dipstick o-ring
Exhaust manifold bolts
Exhaust manifold flange gasket
Head bolt set
Oil Filter (x2)
Drive belt
Oil filter housing gasket
OEM water pump
Thermostat housing w/thermo and o-ring
water pump hose
3-way coolant pipe
4-way coolant pipe

Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise, I'll start price checking the other places.

I too am new to Mini and am looking for reasonable part prices. From what I've seen so far Parts Geek has good prices but is one that charges a lot for shipping. From an order I was ready to place they wanted to charge me for shipping for each shipment that was coming from each warehouse. My cart had stuff from three different warehouses so they wanted to charge me for 3 shipments. I didn't end up placing an order yet so I don't know if they would correct that end in the end. Do they?

They will charge you the correct shipping charges.
I've used them for a bunch of stuff, competitive prices and fast shipping.

Rock Auto usually has the cheapest prices but the parts often come from different warehouses. Best place to to get non oem parts. Oem a lot of times is better so choose wisely for some of the parts. They also have the cheapest price on the valeo clutch kit at $361 . If you use rock auto make sure you get the 5% off discount.

Never hurts to check Amazon too

I feel like you might be talking about way motor works with the shipping thing. If you are then don't worry he adjusts the shipping and puts everything in as few boxes as possible so it shouldn't be nearly that much. If not, that sounds a bit crazy. The other sites mentioned should work. I'd add ECS tuning and outmotoring. Seems best to just shop around.

As for the Military discount, I haven't found anyone who does yet but if you do make sure to mention them.

This has been my experience with WMW too, the shipping price is added up in the check out, but gets corrected after its packed up.

Also forgot to mention mini mania, bought my last part from them.

I usually try to check a bunch of places. I'll have to add fcpeuro to the list, never heard of them

Wish he would reply with that answer or something. I'm in a foreign country so can't call.. just PM or email.. not authorizing that kind of shipping without knowing what's going on.. it's 13% of the total bill.. ridiculous

are you shipping to a foreign country? That would be why the cost is soo high.

As you can see on their website they were gone for the week at a major Mini event.

They won't be shipping until at least Monday anyway so hopefully they'll see your email and respond.

They have always adjusted and combined shipping in the past so it should be the same for you. I get waiting for a response first though.

And yeah, international shipping costs are ridiculous

Since you personally can't call, maybe email a friend or family member to call for you on Monday.

They should answer email faster but they aren't a huge operation so a little patience is required sometimes.

When do you get back to the States?

+1 on all of the vendors listed above. They not only participate on our forum, they are enthusiasts and take a lot of time with advice and suggestions. And they've been around here a long time, with stellar reviews for their business practices. They may not always be the cheapest, but they deserve our business.

Try www.mini2.com if all else fails forum wise. If you live in the US, I suggest British Parts of Utah, I know the owner, and he's pretty awesome. Bought from him for years with no problems

Hope Way doesnt mind, but he has been awesome to work with so far, and always answered my many questions. A part of his response:

"And USPS is our friend as they are usually the cheapest. So ignore the shipping when you check out as that would be worse case scenario if each item had to ship by itself."

Putting in my order tomorrow morning and supporting the community and WMW. Thanks Way

Reading their warranty- you have to send parts back that you want to claim the warranty on. I can't imagine sending back something like a used oil filter.

Forgetting about the oil filters, this may make sense for something like a dual mass flywheel on a car you expect to keep forever (or a down pipe/cat). High price items that are known to be bad designs.

Also, for cheaper items, it may make sense to buy two and keep one in "stock" so you can send the other back for replacement and won't be "down".
I'll have to check them out for my next purchase.
