2004 noisy cvt question

Hi, I know about cvt transmission horror histories and evrything but I have a question about mine.
I bought this car for cheap with 2 problems as a hobby to fix during the winter.
1- did'nt start anymore (fixed)
2- Noisy CVT
The previous owner went to the BMW dealer and of course they said that the tranny had to be changed. I drove the car for the first time today after fixing the starting problem. The behaviour of the cvt is irreproachable in auto or manual mode and no fault code. The only problem is that it is noisy. It sounds a bit like when we back up a car equiped with a manual transmission. It looks like coming from the input of the tranny and it follows the speed of the engine when the car has reached a few miles an hour. The car has 98000 miles on it.
Did anybody had this specific problem or know something about it?
Would appreciate any help

I would rebuild it right now. You can do it for a few hundred $ according to this thread. If it breaks, then it is about $8k to replace it. Here is a thread that might help:

Thank's a lot Eddie for precious infos. I tought the belt was around $700. I'm afraid that mine has a different problem like a bearing because of the grinding noise. We'll see cause I intend to get in there and disassemble the tranny. I would have like to know what makes that sound Inside

You might be right about it being something other than the belt, but it seems that the belts in these trannys do let loose around 100k miles. So you should replace it while you are in there. The OP in that other thread had his belt come only partially apart. Maybe that happened to yours and a piece of your belt is in a bearing causing the noise. In any case, noise is not good. Let us know how you make out.

I agree with you noise is no good :(
I'm planning to do that during the next months (winter) I'll have plenty of time to do a good job. I just hope parts won't be too $$$
I'll certainly let know the progress and result here.
Thank's for the help.

CVT out just drained the oïl out. Could'nt remove the drain plug cause it's stuck :(
Almost ready for the operation. I'm taking a lot of informations before opening and disassembly. I hope I'll easily identify where the noise comes from.
To be continued...
