September 25 Midlands MINIac MINI-Rally

That's right.....September 25, it's on!

All are invited to come play with the MINIacs of the Midlands....

We are putting on a three legged MINI rally, with stops in Hartsville, Bishopville, and McBee South Carolina.

Our first stop will be at the "Happy House on Butterfly Hill" in Hartsville. We will gather there around 10 - 10:30 in the morning. Jamie Tingen, the creator/owner of this place, has opened her arms to our group, and is looking forward to meeting us, telling us about her place, and (most likely) gawking at the MINIs.

George "El Presidente" Kail has offered to work with the Charlotte folk, and see about putting together a caravan type affair from Charlotte to Hartsville. We are hoping that the other areas will do something similar. Trey.....Charleston ? Anyone from Raleigh ? Winston-Salem ? Greenville/Spartanburg ? Anywhere else ?

After hanging at the "HHoBH" for a while, we will head to McBee, MINI caravan style, for a lunch outing at McLeod farms. Information on them available on the web at www.mcleodfarms.com

Following lunch we will head to Bishopville for a visit to Fryar's Topiaries. More details on them available at www.fryarstopiaries.com

Best guess, done at Fryar's by around 3, maybe 3:30 ...??? Plenty of time for the diehard 'COCK fans to get hunkered down for the big game against Troy State !!!!

And you can always join us for one or two of the legs, rather than all 3!

We will definitely have some giveaways......probably some "prizes" as well, although god only knows what that will be based on.....

We also intend to put together a "slide show" of photos, maybe get them put onto CDs for the attendees......so please, if you have a digital camera, plan on bringing it, taking pictures, and getting them to .....well, we're not quite sure yet who to get them to, but we will by then, so please help out with pics if you can.

More will be revealed.....but for now, please know that you are all welcome to come play with us, club members or not, on this family friendly, low-key, South Carolina Midlands MINIac sort of day.

Mick

ps thanks to Susan, I have word doc files of articles on the Happy House and on Fryar's that originally appeared in the State newspaper....if you would like e-copies sent, just let me know.....

Hello Mick,

I am looking forward to this event. I am hoping both Chris and I can go to this. Naturally it depends on her schedule whether she will be there.

Mick

I am planning on attending your drive. I have several other Charlotte area MINIs that will also be attending.

In my new role of M2C2 VP of the Charlotte area I will get the word out and have a meeting place in Charlotte to drive down together.

More details to follow.

George

Yes, sorry for the delay. My husband Keith and I will be attending as long as he is not in CA on business. Unfortunately, this may be the weekend he has to go to Perris--I certainly hope not. I'll let you know if things change, but for now, please count us in.

To add also, this is a fine example of why we need one area for posting all events in the Carolinas and not all these regional areas for Charlotte, Greenville, Columbia and on and on--like what was discussed on Saturday. I guess I should of spoke-up too and not just sat there like a lump. This is funny, but I just found the SE forum again after thinking that this was the only forum. I had heard about a winery event over the labor day weekend and wondered where in the heck it was. After searching, it's somewhere else. I can't make that one because I forgot were going to VIR for a Factory Five Event. Sorry for the rant

Cheers,
Debi

You are absolutely correct.. Do we want our forum to become as confusing to navigate as MINIUSA's?

moving forum discussion to another thread

I have started a new thread to continue the discussion of the forum layout so that we don't get off topic with Mick's thread.

Please post comments or suggestions about changing the M2C2 forum to the M2C2 Forum Concerns thread.

Please join us in Charlotte for the drive together to Hartsville. We need to be in Hartsville by 10:15AM and the drive should take about 90 minutes from the East side of Charlotte.

We will meet at the Starbucks near Highway 74 and 51, here is the address.

Starbucks
1811 Matthews Township Pkwy.
Matthews NC, 28105

We will leave by 8:30 am. I am going to be there by 7:30 AM if any MINIs that can not make the trip would like to stop by for coffee and a chance to meet some fellow MINIs please stop by.

Please post here if you can make the drive.

Thanks

Hi George,

Sorry, but Keith and I won't be able to make the drive.

See you next time around.

Update to the original post

Quoted from Mick's email message to me:

We are on, and it looks like hurricane season is taking the weekend
off....all indicators are sunny and blue!

Jamie Tingen, owner of Happy House on Butterfly Hill in Hartsville,
has asked me to switch the order so that we come visit her in the
afternoon. She is driving up from Tampa to meet with us!

I put an update to this effect in the forums, via someone else's
computer, just not sure how many people saw it. Please help spread
the word about the change. Thanks.

SO, our first stop is now Fryar's Topiaries in Bishopville. It is
located a little less than a mile east of I-20 on the US 15 exit
which is number 116. Going east from 20, look for small versions of
Pearl Fryar's topiaries, at the intersection of Broad Acres Road.
Actual address is 145 Broad Acres Road, Bishopville 29010. More
questions, check www.fryarstopiaries.com

The plan is to gather the MINIs at Fryar's between 10 and
10:30.....hang out there until 11 or 11:30, then head for McBee to
McLeod Farms. Have lunch at McLeod's, check out the museum (some fun
old cars....no MINIs unfortunately) then head to Hartsville around
1:00.

From Fryar's, suggested route to McBee is 341 to 1 (where it meets
Bethune) to McBee (where it meets151). Taking this route, you would
turn right on 151, then McLeods is a ways out on the left. If you are
coming a different route, check with them 843-335-8335 or
http://www.mcleodfarms.com/main.html

From McBee to the Happy House in Hartsville, suggested route is 151
(toward Florence) to BR 151 to Hartsville. This is no more than 30
minutes from McBee (even doing the speed limit) they tell me.

Heading from McBee, on 151 toward 20, look for a Shell station and
Subway at a stop light. Turn right at that light, go through
Kelleytown, past the Baptist Church.....Hillcrest Road is the first
paved road on the right after that church.

Approximately 2/10 ths of a mile on Hillcrest, there should be an
opening, just before the first house on the left. The Happy House on
Butterfly Hill is about 1200 feet from the paved road. I have been
told that if we somehow miss Hillcrest road, shortly after that we
will see the Ashland Mini Mart.....whoops! Go back. If totally lost
at this point, you might be eligible for a prize, should we decide to
offer one for the MINI that had the most trouble getting here! Also,
the Mini Mart phone is 332-3407...

...Please help spread the word, and come out for any or all of
this day. Everyone is welcome.....come on your own terms. Join us
for all three stops, just lunch, or any combination that fits your
reality.
