For those with hi-flow or catless downpipes...

How are you guys getting through emissions (OBD-II based) with downpipe mods? I have an Akra DP and have used the BMS CAN tool to keep the CEL off thus far, but I just checked for codes using Dashcommand and found that there were two "permanent" O2 efficiency below threshold codes that I could not delete. On top of that, Oxygen sensor monitoring, evaporative system, and catalyst monitoring systems were all "not ready"... I believe that would all add up to a fail in most states that used OBD-II based emissions testing, no?

Most uninstall their down pipes and reinstall the OEM hardware before a smog test. Your tool only blocks the CEL from apearing on your dash, it doesn't block the code from being stored. Most tunes program the emissions control system from being able to see the that the primary cat has been removed.

Any idea why it's showing a "permanent" code? I can't seem to delete it, which makes me think even if I replaced the OE downpipe it would still come up on an OBD scan...

+1 Well said.

Not sure if I am reading this right, but it will permanently stay on unless you get a tune that codes it out, or do a spacer for the O2 sensor (sometimes works/sometimes doesn't). If you put the OE downpipe back on and reset the code, it shouldn't come back.

The diagnostic function within Dashcommand has three fields into which it populates codes: Pending, current, and permanent. Pending and current make sense, but I'd never heard of a permanent code prior to using the app. Clearing codes using either Dashcommand or my CAN tool will get rid of the pending and current codes, but permanent codes remain. Not sure what to make of it, or whether this is even something an OBD-II emissions inspections would look at.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but minivinnie92 any update since this post? Have you had to go through a smog check yet?

I have a Riss Racing down pipe and I run a Accesport. The monitors are all set and no codes. The programming works around the CEL and sets the monitors anyway.

I'm in CA. The pre-test is an off the record test and the results are not transmitted to the governing body.

I solved that problem by moving from VA to Florida...no inspections here!
