Dealerships and mods???

I was just wondering what dealerships everyone goes to as far as warranty work and service. I bought my mini at Bill Jacobs, and the sales department was fantastic. However, Patrick is closer to home, and when asked about modification and warranty work, they told me that they absolutely do not accept mods unless they are made by Mini. I was wondering if Bill Jacobs or Knauz is a little more accepting of modifications. All I was thinking of starting out with is an intake, which I didn't think would make that big of a difference.

Thanks,
Lindsey =)

I am curious also, I bought mine at Knauz, but could go anywhere for service since I am ~350 miles away and 250 from MCM (detroit). Knauz was nice enough to give me an oil filter 'for the road' since I wanted to change my oil at the break-in point and was soo far away.

Soon to have my 10K service and have added a CAI and 15% pulley. I just do not want to make an appointment, show up from a long way away and have them refuse the service.

I don't see how any Dealer can refuse to mantain your vehicle. As long as nothings wrong, they have no reason to be giving you a hard time. I'd take it to the nearest dealer and get them boys to go to work. Any drama comes along laugh at em and ask why they have a problem and the others do not.

My car was maintained at Patrick lately, no hassles on my parts. My car
is running flawlessly too.

I think as long as you are reasonable with them, they will try to help you
out the best they can. If you forget to bolt down the cone filter clamp
and a bird gets stuck in your throttle body, I don't think MINI will call that a
warranty repair... so just be reasonable.

Thats odd, Patrick installed my springs, front sway bar, and just recently my sidmarkers and tails. I did the rear sway bar and the exhaust myself. So far, they havent given me problems. They are really cool to work with. Just talk to Mike Johnson hes really easy to work with. I asked if they would install my BBK whenever I got it (who knows when that is... ), and they said they would.

The annoyance is that it seems that MINI USA is trying to make it so if you get one mod they get out of ALL warranty work. I reccomend you shop around MINI techs till you find one that actually drives and races one. There is no reason that one or 2 mods should void warranties on parts of the car that have no causal realtion to their failure from your mods. The same applies to Bimmers, so it seems that the whole thing is going to be a bit annoying. I only see those too worried about keeping their warranties absolutely intact getting the underpowered JCW package. Be aware that some MINI service centers will log your modifications for the purpose of helping to track your car and avoid giving you warranty service in the future.

Were you in my area I'd be very able to send you to someone that could advise you on how to handle things.

I just got my Tank out of Patrick Mini. I put a Dinan exhaust/intake/throttle body and software stage 2 upgrade. Im going to do the Dinan pully this year and a stage 3 software upgrade as well...talk to Adam. They did the work and its under warranty like normal. I have a 50,000 mile warranty and under 27,000 on my '02 Cooper S.

i thought that Inspection I was to be done after one year of ownership regardless of mileage?

I've had mine for a year, but have not taken it in for the recall or the Inspection I.
