Turbo is dead

I've got a '09 jcw that apparently need a new turbo. I figured I'd upgrade it from an oem while I'm at it. Any suggestions on a higher performing turbo? I've done some minor upgrades (intake, intercooler). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

JMTC, GPops, Owens are all reputable. Several NAM members have reports of each on here. I myself am still using my stock turbo so I can't lead you beyond that.

Larger Intercooler and resonated pipe delete are good upgrade, also the sound tube / pipe delete on the back side before the intake manifold.

If you want to upgrade and have the cash to do so, then do it. Make sure you do the proper supporting mods with the upgrades. I run a GTX by Turbo By Garrett (non Mini car), but my car also has a built motor. Borgewarner is a good turbo company as well. Blouch turbo is another. Do your research. Otherwise, OEM is here.

Thanks for all the input. I'm definitely going with a non oem turbo. Now to find the right one...

Is there a way to delete the pops and burbles? Are they coming from the turbo when the engine is hot? What is the dashpot on the side?

Not sure what your goal is but if you go bigger you will prob need to have a tune put on the car as well. Plus other things like a catless DP etc.

The JCW will run OK with the stock tune and a bigger turbo. If I recall correctly the stock JCW turbo has a 38mm cold side opening and the replacement I used was a JMTC 42mm. Really didn't have any problems, but decided to have Jan from RMW clean up the tune and do some tweaking. Much happier after that.

Have you looked into rebuilding the turbo? If it isn't too damaged you might be able to have it rebuilt and upgraded.
