I have an 08 cooper s. I've looked around the Internet and forum at all kinds of opinions on the exhaust you can just buy but I'm trying to keep the cost down. I did see the obx I think it was and it sounded fine but I don't like that the pipe diameter is not larger. I like the low tone of the quicksilver and I do not want a loud done inside. I'm no exhaust expert so I'm looking for suggestions on what to really ask my local shop to do if I have them put something together for me. Should I have them remove a cat, resonato, etc and then just run a solid pipe back to the new muffler? Any susuggestion on how to approach this? I'm sorry if I seem illiterate but I'm not that knowledgeable with exhaust.

all depends on what your looking for, usually performance wise youll want a catless down pipe for the turbo. this will give you a moderate sound increase, shouldn't drone with stock resonator and muffler.


if just noise and lots of it, go catless downpipe and single high flow muffler.


anything past the downpipe without replacing it will not give any measurable performance gains

 

Thanks for the input. I do want some sound and I guess you cal lit burping. Yum lol. Any performance I can get I will take. I have heard doing the down pipe and cat back will be quite loud as you are saying. So in your opinion leave the cat back and do the down pipe? I can do that myself I believe.

 

the down pipe it self will make a bit more noise, only because it will normally be a tad thinner wall stainless than oem, and the stock catback, wether or not you keep the cat should stay stock should give you the most power with least sound. obviously the cat will make it quieter. although I cannot say what it will sound like or actually how loud it will be

 

What about the CEL being set off?

 

From my understanding (and information I got from my mechanic who works at Bmw) if you go with a catless dp you will throw a CEL. Also the sensors are very sensitive, so even if you have a lower cell cat, you run the risk of throwing the CEL as well. This is only truly a problem if you are in warranty. Do you know if you are still in warranty? I'm looking at catbacks myself because I am currently still in warranty!

 

No im not unde warranty but my ocd would drive me crazy with cel on lol. I've been looking at the cat backs also..

 

Many tuners can remove the CEL post-install.
