RFT rattle aftrr pothole

It's pothole season again. Hit one today going at 35km/h. The tire is making a rattle sound. The tire pressure monitor came up right few mins. Will the RFT make constant loud rattle after a puncture? Can it be fixed or would I have to buy a new tire? Please help.

Did you check the pressure with a gauge? If the pressure is OK, you've done some other damage.

+1 to the pressure check. If the pressure is good but the TPMS light is on, my guess would be the rattling you hear is a broken piece of the TPMS sensor in the wheel... If you are 100% sure the rattle is coming from the wheel, that is, and not a suspension component.

Maybe the sensor broke off? That would explain both the light and the rattle.

My pressure gauge was broken, so I couldn't check the pressure last night. I pushed the valve with my finger and literally no air left in the tire. I guess I will have to buy a new tire.

If you have lost all pressure then it could be a sensor issue as stated above. I'd be more worried about a cracked or buckled rim though. Get it checked out ASAP!

As far as a new tire goes, that depends. How long did you drive on it? And how fast? If you only went slow for a few miles it might be fine. Contrary to popular opinion, runflats are not always unrepairable. It all depends on where the damage is, etc., just like it does with a regular tire.

I called the service dept and they told me that there is no TMPS in the tire. The car calculates the rotation speed and determines the tire pressure. I checked the rim it doesn't seem cracked. I looked for damage on the tire as well. Seems in pretty good. So I'm a little confused. I guess, I'll just get the roadside assistance to bring the car to the garage.

If you don't own a functional tire pressure gauge or an compressor, the above may be the only viable coarse of action.

If you did, I would measure the pressure. If it's near zero, you have a hole. Either in the tire (puncture), or the wheel (cracked). You can try to pump more air to see where it's leaking, or just take the tire to a shop to have it inspected.

Then your choices will be to assess whether the puncture can be repaired (if you stopped immediately after the puncture, the sidewalls may still be good), or the tire needs to be replaced. If replaced, just 1 or all 4.

But at this point, you don't know enough about the damage to make an intelligent decision about what to do next. Need more data.

Turned out, that it was a popped tire. Replaced the tires with my summer tires and all good.
