R56S vs F56S EPA mpg

I have a '12S manual that gets great mileage. I enjoyed MTTS 2014 to Lubbock and drove home through New Mexico and Arizona, out to the Coast and back to Lodi,Ca. Fully loaded car and lots of high speed, I averaged 35.5 mpg. The new F56S manual is rated lower for highway than my trip mileage for the fast driving MTTS. I don't think this new car is any less thirsty than our R56's and may have worse gas mileage.

EPA estimates are made for "real" world driving. You may actually get better mileage than what the sticker says. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

the new S has more displacement , be hard to get the same MPG with larger engine.

I don't know if this link will work or not, but here it goes:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find....31642&id=34792

That compares a '12 to a '14 S model. I shows the '14 has better highway mileage while the '12 has better in town, therefore better average. By 1 mpg. You should realistically see about the same.

Funny cause the new engines shut off when stopped at a light too.

Perhaps thats due to the displacement difference? Maybe even worse without the shutdown feature on.

And in Hot climates not gonna be used as you need AC when stopped.

Very good point. I hardly use the A/C so I rarley think about it. Of course in DFW, I'm sure thats a must! It gets hot a humid here in the summer, but I'm sure it just gets worse down there!

Im still trying to figure out how they do it . I ASSUME they stop the motor at TDC or about and just spark it to restart as it does not use the starter, atleast no car with that option has for me.

Starter would take too long and not last doing the job.

Thats a very good question. I'll have to dig up some info and find out how all the cars with this feature start the car, because I believe you're right, the starter doesn't do the starting.

well some quick research it seems they do use the starter but the engine is prepped for it , but here is the catch.

Finally, if the special 12-volt batteries needed for stand-alone stop-start systems do need replacement, they are about twice as expensive as conventional 12-volt lead-acid batteries.

WOW so a MINI battery could now cost $700 and having fought the good fight allready to get MINI to warranty one, oh boy.
