Drivetrain 2007 MCS with Access port not running well
2007 MCS with Access port not running well
I have been running the access port as well as a bunch of mods for the last couple of years, and have been so happy with the performance. A couple of months back, on occasion, on a cold start, I started to get the yellow engine light, and car would run in degraded performance mode for about 3-4 minutes, then the light would go out, and car would behave normally. This would happen when the access port was installed, and when it was not.
I brought it to the dealer, and they replaced the timing chain and guides, and the problem no longer happens when the Access Port is not installed. But, when I install the Access Port, it happens again.
In an email with the folks at Alta, they suggested changing the plugs, and possibly needing a carbon purge on the back of the valves. I change the plugs, and dumped a couple of cans of Seafoam in the tank over a couple of weeks.
I had de-carboning of the back of the valves done with about 25,000 miles on the car, and the car now has 41,000. If this is the case, are other folks who are using the Access Port having carbon problems?
Below are the codes that I am getting, most reference Knock or Super Knock.
P2D52, P2DCD, P2BCB, P2D9C, P2D50
Before Shelling out another $500+ for the walnut de-carbon work, is there anything else I should look into?

I am only running 93 octane.
Can you grab a log to see what's going on?
Get rpm, boost, accel position, cal gear, timing, Afr, knock flags at the minimum.
Run through 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears.
Pm me if you would like a review of the log.

Do you need to do anything special to get a reasonable size log? I tried to capture a while I drove to down hall this morning, and it only recorded the first 29 seconds of my trip?
I have run logs much longer than that but long logs are not usually helpful. Do it in short bursts and collect several, noting conditions. Long logs end up being too much data to dig through and you dont remember the conditions

Looking at the log now. I see you went full throttle around line 1500. Timing looks to advance smoothly with no drops which looks good. I did not see any knock flags which is good. Load requested and boost look good. I do not see afr on your log which would be good to track.
Boost does look depressed. And oil temp is only 114F, was the car fully warmed to at least 185F if not 225F? Looks like it wasn't at this point. Might try a log when fully warmed up with several full throttle pulls. Did you get the codes during this run? I don't see any knock flags or anything fishy. Later in the log the car us warmed up (oil temp around 221F), but I don't see any full throttle pulls .
You can uncheck cyl1 knock, cyl 2 knock etc. They are voltages. Also can unchecked timing cyl 1, timing cyl 2, etc. Keep the others and add Afr.
Do you get codes/ limp mode when driving around casually or only when you go full throttle?

Just goes to show, running a tuned car with increased boost, carbon build up will happen faster. may want to consider getting equipment to do the walnut blast yourself, or get used to doing the cleaning with your dealer every 10-15k.
