r53 power steering recall: 100% labor reimbursement at independent shop

BMW/MINI finally decided to refund labor even if the power steering pump was replaced at an independent shop. See attachment. Just spreading the word.

Several months ago they gave me a variety of bull$hit excuses about why they wouldn't refund labor. Logic prevailed or they were scared $hitless about what was going to happen with the GM recall and sent these out in a hurry.

You should go ahead and schedule a repair at a dealer, who would handle it under warranty. It would be better than going through the hassle of getting it repaired independently and filing for a reimbursement.

Is this strictly for the 2002-2005 MCS? I'm having problems with my 2006 MCSA, mostly leaking constantly and will eventually replace everything.

What problems were you having with yours to get it to qualify for this?

I went to the dealer for a whining noise and it was the power steering pump. $1600 estimate and they said it was all on me. No warranty coverage for my 2006 MCS. I found one for $280 at rock auto.

MINI won't cover beyond what they have stated in the document. The power steering failed in my 2006 and it wasn't covered. I had it repaired at an independent shop for $1100 (parts + labor).

The power steering pump was upgraded in either February or March 2005, so not all 2005 models are covered.

BMW reimbursed me for the power-steering pump on my 2005 MCS but my daughters 2005 MC falls outside the serial #range.
They paid me in full for the work done at an independent shop.
On my daughters R50 I am going to get the pump from Detroit Tuned and have my mechanic put it in. About a $300-400 savings over what the MINI dealer wants to do the job.
