Could it be over-boost? Need your help on this one MINIacs!

Hi Guys,

I own a 2008 MCS with a JCW tuning kit. I bought it used with 36k about 8 months ago and just hit 46k today. Last night, my check engine light came on right about the same time that I noticed a major change in my turbo.

Normally, my turbo would spool at around 3,000 or so rpm's and have little to no audible blow-off when shifting. Suddenly, it has begun spooling at only 1500 rpm's with a blow-off that is far stronger and louder than ever before.

As exciting as that sound actually is, there is clearly something wrong. I am checking the code after work today and will post is as soon as I know.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions?

Thank you all!

I agree. Pull your recirc valve and tell us what you find. GFB sells a piston sandwich piston that may help if that's the case. If you like the sound, go for the forge BOV adapter after replacing the valve.

Whhhaaat? This is more fun. I have a dartboard with common MINI issues. The dart this time was on the border with clogged sunroof drains. I got lucky

If I had a dollar for every "check engine light is on - what is the problem - don't have the code" discussion on NAM I would be a millionaire

That was my educated guess, I didn't ask the internet to guess for me therefore it's not internet guessing since I didn't use Google.
