Service Light Reset

Hey guys. I've got a 2009 MCS and I did my brakes myself back in December, but forgot to reset the mileage for the service indicator. I followed a video online, and am able to get it to saying it's loading the reset on the light but, it doesn't actually reset.

Am I missing something or doing it wrong? Can this only be reset by a MINI dealer?

I saw this method as well but, I'm not sure what makes this different than just going into the service menu and holding the button down to get where it says, "Reset", holding the button down again and letting it reset.

I'm also quite ignorant so, I'll try it and let you know how it goes.

If you get a chance, read the whole thread. There are multiple different postings on how to reset it.

It might even be my wear sensor. Apparently if there's something wrong with one of the sensors, it will still trip and not allow me to reset. I read that from the thread.

The sensors are such a pain to get on, so I'm going to assume I did something wrong or one of them broke or something.

cdboss,

From your description, you tried the method described in System 1 in this document:

http://totehmoon.com/uploads/r56_ser...procedures.pdf

If so and it did not reset:

1. did you trip the brake sensor before doing the brake job?
2. if so, did you replace it with a new sensor?

It won't reset if it's the sensor. If you don't want to buy one, you can cut the end and solder the wires together. The cheapest place I found them was rockauto.com.

Yeah, it's my sensor more than likely. When I put them on, I don't think I did it correctly and I think a piece of the plastic broke off of it. They're a real pain to put on.

MINI wants $180 to put a sensor on, lol. I won't be doing that. I could just try and put another one on but, I'm fearful I'll break this one too.

cdboss, if you get another one (the part itself is pretty cheap), get it plugged in, but then don't try to attach it to the caliper. Just wire it up out of the way some where. You should then be able to do the reset and not have to worry about damaging the sensor.
