newbie lurker in CT could use help

Hello. I purchased an 04 MCS. It has been a love/hate getting everything working to my satisfaction but we are trending towards the love side. There are 2 remaining issues I could use expert advice on.

#1 how can I stop the car from locking at speed, have whole car unlock w/one button push etc? My car does not have Nav and I have not found any button pushes to change. Dealer only programming? Someone in CT with "gameboy" computer? SOL?

#2 mirror caps. are gen 1 and gen 2 mirror caps the same? I hoping to score a used set of Black ones.

Thank you all. david
PS, if anyone is looking to have their roof wrapped, I had it done at Details by Dennis in Madison, CT and he did an awesome job. and JG Technik in Branford has done some mechanicals and they are honest and fair.

Can you expand on the question? if i understand correctly, the door lock button should take care of the issue..

thank you Stoker. sorry if I am not clear. the car automatically locks the doors once driving. I hate this and would like to defeat it. from the key fob, pressing un-lock only unlocks the driver's door. I would REALLY like the whole car to unlock - including the hatch. d

That is a code setting. Dealers set that preference at delivery. They can change it. They will charge you. There is a list of choices somewhere.

Doesn't the car door being locked keep you realativly safe from being thrown from the car in case of an accident? I mean, there must be a reason for locking the door's. I can't imagine the Germans went with it, just cuase it was a good idea.. Not to be sarcastic, but it's always seemed like a good idea to me. But, thats just my opinion...

I agree the locking feature is annoying. What color are your caps I have black, we could possibly trade?

As far as mirror caps, I'm not sure, you might want to try what a lot of us did, plastidip them to see if you really like them black, if so just paint them.

Doors latch. That is what keeps them closed. Locking keeps the handles from activating. In the BMW world, if you pull the inside latch twice, it unlocks. Just never lock it using the remote when you are inside. It disables the latches ( if you lock using the key, and someone is inside, they can't get out.

I can change how the car locks/unlocks via the left turn signal button in the options menu . But mine is a 2013

I actually changed mine to lock when I drive off, and lock automatically when parked after a set time.

If you are computer savvy, you can buy a cable and software for around $30 on eBay to change many of the settings yourself. I set mine to lock at speed and automatically unlock when I remove the key. I also set it so one press on the keg fob unlocks all doors. You can enable a lot of other features such as auto up windows, daytime running lights, follow me home lights, etc. the dealer can also do it for you, but they will charge you, and there are some feature they will not enable, such as the auto up windows. By the way, every car seems to have slightly different features available. The software is called NCS Expert.

Hey bud its good to see another MINI CT, I'm not to far from you, New Haven, I searched high and low for a good smart, independent MINI mechanic and found Minihaus 3 years ago.

He is by far the best in the state. He has the full autologic tool so he can code any thing the dealer does and is constantly going to MINI tanning courses to further his knowledge.

He has a MINI himself. His name is Art tell him Anthony sent you.
