Door stuck shut

So the passenger side door on my 03 Cooper S is stuck shut. Was out with my wife on Friday night. When she tried to get out the door it would not open from the inside or the outside.
The interior handle will remain pulled out if let go of. It has been a weekend of frigid temps here with highs in the single digits. Tried a few sharp taps on the exterior handle with a rubber hammer but nothing happened. Any ideas?

heres a good demonstration of how to get in to your vehicle if you cant open the door.

Watch "VIDEO SCAVENGER HUNT: "Dukes of Hazzard" style!" on YouTube

sorry had to add some humor to this...hope you get the problem fixed just figured this might be a good temporary fix...;-)

I had this happen to me on my 2002 R53 a few years back. Both doors froze shut after rolling in melting snow that then somehow froze the doors shut. The door handles would work but the doors would remain closed. For a while I thought I had broken the mechanism on both doors.

Had to pull a Dukes of Hazard move to get out of the car.

I then parked the MINI in my garage overnight. The doors thawed out and were fully functional by the next morning. Phew!

If it does not work after the thawed out from ice in the jam or on the inside of the door handle. Its either the cable popped out or loose , handle cable loose also. Or the the door lock itself. Since the inside handle is stuck out I think the cable might be stuck.

Here is the info with the diagram linked below.

Thanks
