Navigation Made Useful?

Has anyone come across a way to re-program the Navigation control display to include something useful such as exterior temperature, time, and information on the songs being played from the radio?
The space is clearly there, as well as the graphics logic. Seems a somewhat under utilized system as it comes in base configuration. The temp display being on the drivers dash is useless for a passenger. The minuscule display of the radio feed on the upper part of the control display seems to be poor planning.
I had thought when we go the the Navigation upgrade that the display would actually be better. As it stands it is seriously underwhelming.
I just got a 2014 Cooper S Countryman. Expected better.
