Boot lid rubbing on bumper

After trying to adjust the boot lid, my MINI dealer finally sent my R59 to Motoring Skins (world's best Graphix guys!) and had them put a sheet if carbon fiber and a thin band if clear bra material on the back to prevent rubbing.

The thin clear material is on the bottom of the boot lid, so it won't rub away the paint. The carbon fiber piece not only protects the bumper, but also adds a uniqueness that ties in my carbon fiber spoiler.

I love MINI of Murray in Salt Lake City!!! Levi is the world's best service manager!

That turned out really nice Rod, great solution. I agree, great crew at Mini of Murray…they just "get it". I stopped by there last summer when I was on my Mountain West road trip and had them install my NM shift adapter, which had arrived late, as well as tint the rear window. Keep up the good work

I would have left a small 1/4" or more of bumper rim around instead of laying it all the way to the edge of the bumper valence but real I'm extremely peaky. It looks great!

Now how in the world would the boot edge meet the bumper. That sounds really odd. Is it when driving or all the time?

We are assuming that either the spoiler is pressing the lid way down, or the bumper is flexing up at high speeds.

We had opened the gap a lot, but we were still seeing a minor rub.

Maybe I should drive slower?

Ha ha . . . I don't think a roadster is meant to drive slower

What area was it rubbing? I'll have to check mine.
I wonder if it is a common issue . . . like the soft top rubbing on the rubber seal or the snake cable rubbing on the paint inside the boot gutter area.

It's right where the lid edge and the bumper are. In the picture, it's where they put the carbon fiber on the bumper. It will appear as a misty line of light scratching. It would have eventually worn through the bumper and taken off the paint along the edge of the boot lid.

I had the paint loss from the snake cable and the grounding wire. They fixed that, too.

I guess it's along the entire edge . . . I'll check/monitor mine and report later.

That's what I did with mine with some extra high-end vinyl I had. It smooth so it lets the cable come in contact without much rubbing.
It was easier for me than having to take it to the dealer. We'll see how it fairs:

I also had the issue of the boot lid rubbing the paint on the bumper. My dealer repainted the bumper and increased the gap. Looks as good as new now. The bad thing was they left out the bolt that held the bottom of the bumper to the car, which I noticed when I washed the car after getting it back. A quick fix but annoying.

My dealer repainted the bumper and boot lid, but it started showing rubbing again. Thus the skins!
