What is the best way to get my 2012 MCS up from 181 to 200 horsepower ? I don't want to change the stock exhaust or flash the ECU . Can this be done with just a TRUE cold air intake and maybe a different blow off valve spring ?
The fastest and easiest way to get 200+ HP for the N18 is with the JB+ piggy back tune.....it literally installs in 30 seconds and keeps your ECU stock.

essentially, anything you can "bolt on" will do very little to add power, a full turbo back exhaust will do something, but a CAI, larger intercooler, and a cat back exhaust will do almost nothing to increase HP.

I'm in the same boat slightly. I'm shooting 200whp and 220wtq. Not crazy numbers. This spring I'm going to get some Dyno time and with a catless downpipe, some exhaust work, and the jb+ Im thinking I'll be very close to that. If not I'll turn up the jb a tad.

if i were you, and you wanted to bump up the JB+....i would definitely look into a water/meth kit....or at least a larger intercooler
well the JB+ on a stock car should be putting you at ~210 at the crank.....so ide say on a fully de-catted car, you should be coming out close to 200 at the wheels.

Exhaust....tuning.....intake mods.....thats how ya do it. Figure about 1K cost to obtain each 1 WHP ..... Or are you looking at HP vs real WHP? WHP is the key and do the DynoJet to check yer mods and tune the chip. It is a blast when u can smoke the tires in 1st and 2nd and chirp in 3rd and 4th and hit the rev limiter.
220 whp is good! fun and snappy driving!
My mini is my daily driver so I want to keep it reliable and drivable... even in snow . I don't want any drive train issues. So far the JB+ piggy back looks like the direction I want to go . Is it really plug and play ?
Yes it is. Takes seconds. (actually it takes about 15 minutes because you want the car to go into sleep mode before you plug it in).
Takes longer to put the car to sleep than to install the JB+. The gains are felt instantly and achieve full potential after ~50-100 miles of driving. My car is bone stock and the difference is real.
For all the idiot answers you've gotten.... Look at my list list of mods and that is shortened. The answer to your question in... No.
He didn't want to change exhaust or flash the ECU.
The JB+ is a piggyback so no ECU flashing is needed. It is completely removable.
He asked if it can be done with a cold air intake and maybe a different blow off valve spring. The answer is no.
The JB+ is no BS. It is 100% legit from a reputable tuner that has proven results. 20hp/30tq for $300. OP make up your own mind.

No... You gave him no answer... Just BS...
considering that "piggy back" tunes are almost universally despised on these forums.......and NONE of the 60+ members here that have one have had anything negative to say about the JB+.....and the JB+ is from a pretty well known player in the BMW tuning world......you are going to have to be more clear on exactly what is BS?
Pros: removable (dealer visits), reliable 20hp/30tq gain on stock car running 92 octane, installs in seconds (after car goes to sleep ~15 mins), upgradeable software (though none needed since beta testing ended), adapts to E85 mixtures and/or meth/water injection systems, two rounds of beta testing on S motor yielded no problems that weren't taken care of. For JCW/GP2, turn it down a little and just as reliable.
Cons: not a 'bench tune' so can't switch maps, basically it lets you up boost till the engine says stop (14 psi to 16, stock S motor for example).
Goal was to grab the 'easy power' first to mimic the performance gains of the 'JCW kit tune' from dealer at a fraction of the cost.
There is a whole thread on it 'burger motorsports (bms) tunes'. Terry Burger is the man with the plan and comments on that thread.
Dont know what else to tell you, google burger motorsports, read their website, read the BMW N54 forums if you want more opinions. It's the piggyback that actually works. Change your fluids more often ;-)
