Homelink Programming issues

Hello All,

Just replaced my ond 1991 era garage door opener with a new Chamberlain with Homelink.

I'm having some issues with getting the homelink setup in the car 2013 JCW programmed with the new opener.

I'm stuck on step 2 when I should be pressing both the button on the mirror and the button on the remote at the same time and wait for the LED to switch from flashing slowly to flashing quickly.

I have tried:

Placing the remote 0 - 12 inches away from the mirror front and bottom
Placing the remote on the back of the mirror out to the windscreen
Placing the remote on the outside of the car
Tried two different remotes and replaced both batteries with new ones
Holding the remote button for 5 seconds, release, press for 5 more seconds, rinse/repeat
Pressing the "learn" button the GD motor head.

Does anybody have and solid working instructions on getting the homelink system synced up to the car?

Thanks,

Sodd

This topic has come up before. You probably need a repeater.

You will need a repeater. Homelink will provide it to you for shipping only ($7).

I've spent hours researching this. I have two new Chamberlain openers so I know what you are going through.

Sucks don't it? At least the repeater will make the system work normally. I've found it really does. Range etc.

One repeater for unlimited openers and unlimited remotes. You will more than likely have questions so feel free to pm me.

The posts ^^^^^^ are correct, I put in a new sideload opener with our new garage door, it needed the repeater.

Mentioned in the docs lightly, they changed the protocols with the new electronics on the GD openers. Sucks but workable.

This would be the first Homelink mirror I've ever cone across that only works when the car is on. Is this just a Mini/BMW thing?

Very strange in my opinion. I first thought my mirror wasn't getting power. No matter what I did I couldn't get the LED to show a button press. Couldn't reset them or nothing.

Then something in my head said to try a button when I was going down the road. It worked. S

o, a Homelink mirror that only works when the car is on? Have to start the car in a closed garage to open the door? Have to close the door before you shut the car down? Please tell me this isn't normal?!

It's normal for BMW/MINI. I think the reasoning is probably that if you park outside, someone would be able to get into your house by breaking into your car. You should be able to bypass it if you rewire it for always on power.

That's rather a stupid way of thinking isn't it? After all, if you use the remotes that come with the openers, they work no matter what the car is doing.

I find it annoying as well. They could improve it if they allow it to work in some conditions such as when doors are unlocked.

However, it is a security issue also with regular remote openers. Several vehicles and houses ago, I had a car broken into while parked outside the house. I got paranoid about it, and if I parked outside overnight, I'd take the remote with me into the house.
