DIY: $10 fix to get bluetooth music streaming( no mods needed)

Hey all,

I posted a question a few weeks ago about will a Ad2p bluetooth 30pin receiver work on a Mini Y-Cable and be decent sound quality. The answer is Yes! My MINI S is a 2013 so should work on r56 and so forth all years.

Parts needed:
1. Oem Y-Cable with 30pin connector
2. Mini Boost, Hi-Fi, HK, Etc.
3. Ad2p 30 Pin receiver
4. Bluetooth phone

Simple process order the 30 pin receiver plug into y-cable 30 male end and select the device on your bluetooth. Enter default code.. Wait.. Now enjoy !

A few draw backs. Plays via Aux input on Mini stereo, doesn't list track title, no steering control besides volume.

The plus side. No interior modification, simple and easy fix. Sound quality is on par with HD radio quality. Doesn't get much better via bluetooth. iPhone 5 user solution and or android guys.

Final cost $9.99

I have an early '07 R56 without a USB hookup, but does have a 3.5mm audio jack. Does this mean that the Y cable would be useless?

Does the USB carry only the power for the AD2P unit and the 3.5mm cable is for the audio?

Could I run a power adaptor out of the cig lighter and hook it into USB portion of the Y cable (then plug the 30 pin in the AD2P receiver)?

What 30-pin A2DP receiver did you use? Is it the same one as in your other thread?

I'll vouch for this solution although I use the Patuoxun receiver ($15 at Amazon.

It sounds great and no modification.

Does the music stop when you turn the car off? It would be nice to have the music player stop when the radio/car is turned off.

Cheers

Nice work KPspec! I will see how this works for me in my R60. I didn't want Connected and figured BT was all I needed, which is what the car came with. Oh my naivete.

I would imagine it depends on the phone/bluetooth enabled device but it does stop with an iPhone from every application I use to play music.

Looking for Oem Y-Cable with 30pin connector...

I'm considering using this suggestion to gain bluetooth capability in my 2010 Mini Convertible. I've been unable to find the Oem y-cable with 30 pin connector though. Can anyone suggest where to purchase this cable? Thanks.

the cheaper ones dont. But if you buy the tune2air it will. In fact if you have a iphone, the tune2air will basically interface with it in the same way it would with a wired ipod. It'll let you browse songs, use your steering wheel to skip, stop when car stops etc.

only thing is theyre about 100 bucks.

I can vouch for the cheaper ones not doing it. I have to manually stop my iPhone from playing. It isn't a huge deal given iOS 7 has the slide-up control panel now so you don't have to unlock your device to stop it.

So that is really the question. $10 for a BT dongle that is really nothing more than a wireless connection that removes the need from plugging a cable into the AUX port and your device jack, or $100 for Tune2Air, which integrates much more deeply.

For my purposes, $10 was the answer and fits my needs just fine. Others will have different expectations and the $100 will be well worth it.
