hatch goes clunk?

i think my hatch makes a clunk type noise on most bumps.

anyone else experience this? ive researched and come up with rear sway bar bushings being bad, but i honestly dont think thats it. it makes noise when im going slow, not turning....

I'm having the exact same issue on my R56. I only hear it when when I am moving slow over bumps. Subscribing to see what people say...

On the r53, the actual u snapped latch on the trunk was replaced under a service campaign to reduce rattles...forget...think the silver ones came off, black went on...not sure..it has been a long time...usually this solved a rattle/thunk issue....
Bet you should be able to twist the black bumpers on the hatch a quarter turn or so to make them taller...stopping the bumps (then again they might have dried out and shrunk...shrinkage!!).... Resulting in the thunk...so time to compensate!! Lol....

I had a thud I would hear every once in awhile when shifting to second. I replaced my RSB with a H&R 19mm which came with new bushings and for the last week I've had the bar I have not heard or been able to duplicate the sound.

The old bushings and the clamp seemed ok though.

Sorry, what is RSB? I am having similar clunking noise on my R53-JCW when up-shifting gear or make sudden acceleration once in a while but enough to drive me crazy.

I had to adjust the latch mechanism a few years ago, it had come loose. That took care of the thunks.

Did you adjust the latch mechanism by simply tightening the bolts that fasten in place, or was there some adjustment to it's position that needed to be made? My hatch is definitely making noise, I'm positive of that. It kind of makes a popping sound when driving slowly over rough roads. I've adjusted the rubber bumpers every which way, but that doesn't help it.

Do you have the chrome or the black d ring latch on the hatch...
The chrome ones were replaced by mini, by slightly shorter ones...black...rattling/thinking were a huge issue till the fix....temp fixes included wrapping one or two layers of electrical tape on the ring...would work till it was cut.

I have a 2010, so the ring is black in color. It's firmly mounted as well. I contemplated the electrical tape temp fix.

Noticed nobody answered this. RSB = Rear Sway Bar

Different design...different issues on gen1 cars....
You might get lucky....but the fix was a gen1 thing from mid 2005 for all cars built BEFORE that date....
You might want to make a post in the gen2 forums....somebody might have a fix....

Thanks. I think the noise is from inside the car, it only happens when I upshift/downshift that make a jerking motion of the car. I checked the seats, hatch, none of these causing the clunking noise. No noise when I hit a bump either.
