WMW Tensioner Stop Install

I did not see any install instructions for the WMW tensioner stop and would like to know if I can install it while the tensioner is out of the car. I have my new tensioner, ready to install, and the stop sitting in the box.

or do I have to install the tensioner assembly and then install the stop?

thanks

Mine was the WMW steel strap (not the cable kind). I bolted it on top (outside) the hydraulic damper tube. The tensioner spring part was mounted to the car when I did it, and with a box end wrench, not enough room for a ratchet. Probably easier to do it before you put the tensioner on the car.

I just did a new tensioner and WMW stop a few weeks ago. I opted to put the stop on with the tensioner installed in the car first as I did not want to chance eating the tensioner spring. It isn't difficult to get the stop on with the tensioner in the car. Open ended wrench, and 5 or so minutes.

Haha. Fair enough. I'm just not sure if having that locking pin inserted will allow me to completely remove the tensioner strut without any issues... Other than space. I'm replacing the old bushings with delrin.

I did not get any instructions with a product I bought from WMW as well. They told me in an email they don't provide instructions due to liability concerns with getting sued

very simple to install, I did mine with the tensioner off the car, tho it can be done while on the car. Just take the 2 bolts out that hold the tensioner shock absorber on and put the metal strap on under the bolts and put the shock absorber bolts back in.

So as long I a have the locking pin inserted I the hole to keep the tensioner spring loaded I can remove the shock absorber and put my new bushings and stop on without removal of the tensioner? I'm using a wmw pulley so the collet is built in.

Yes, when the locking pin is in, you can remove the shock absorber with no problem. You do not need to take off the tensioner, tho it is only held on with 3 bolts and is easy to remove. You can access everything through the wheel well with the wheel well cover off.

Please be warned that if your tensioner struts are busted, those stops will break from vibration stress. Google " Now I know why belt tensioner stops break".
Not saying same will happen w/ the WMW, which I presume is better engineered, but if your struts have no more resistance, it's time to change the assembly. The Gates tensioner is just $70 or so over at Amazon. It's practically OEM.

I'll have to remove it. Some reason I can't slip the pulley tool on.
