R50/53 Bigger Intercooler????
Bigger Intercooler????
Been looking around for a first major (to me) change. I know when I added the larger inter-cooler to my SRT4 I had it was a good thing. Anybody made this change to thier Mini and was it worth the $$ invested? To bad no way to mount the old stock SRT cooler to the Mini..LOL
Thanks

Thanks
There is only one that most people change too and it is the GP intercooler.

Exactly like Alex said. Not much gain for the money. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
LOL was wondering if you could read something I couldn't see!

I thought about bigger inter cooler. The conclusion I came up with after reading a lot.... Not much bang for the buck compared to other mods. Also, it's benefits would be more to 'enhance' other mods, helping one to eek out those tents of seconds on a track.
For me an IC wouldn't be a good idea for a "first" mod. My car came used to me with a aftermarket coil-pack and Alta CAI (love it) My plans are to add (unfortunately slowly over time) 15% sc pulley, ATI Super Damper, Polly engine/tranny mounts, Polly LCA bushings, lighter-weight wheels, Tyrol-sport brake caliper stiffening kit (or maybe r56 front rotors/calipers instead) and stainless lines, EBC Reds. One-ball mod, Suspension after that.

Think of a bigger ic on a gen1 car as being more about keeping your HP under adverse conditions....rather than making more HP....
So on blazing hot day, you might get less timing pull and your car will feel like it does on a cooler fall day....more of a small change... But no instant change...my conclusion...pretty far down the list too!!

Thanks for bumping that back in there Bram. -Right after I posted, I realized I had never purchased an IC as OP inquired, so I wasn't sure I was really answering his question... I retracted, and now I digress -lol
Speak-up!! We can stop the haters....lol...with the name calling they do, I bet they will be gone in a few more posts anyway...just like getting banished to the chair in school...
Mini's are all new to me sooI'll sort through all the opinions and take a SWAG at it. This time follow advice and find a better use for the money. Maybe put the money toward shorter springs or ????? My son tells me too much wheel gap! lol
