Well it's been a pleasure ladies and gentlemen

Well I figured this is the best place to post since it's pretty much the only SubForum I frequent. I wasn't planning on selling my car yesterday but an opportunity presented itself that I couldn't turn down. So while I will miss driving the car I think I will miss all the camaraderie on this site just as much. I've never been a part of a place where people are so friendly and willing to help each other out whether it comes to learning something new or motivating another to take the plunge and do a mod even if it's just changing the oil.

So I wanted to just say thank you to all of you out there who have given me something to take away from owning a Mini even though the car is now gone.

Keep doing what you all do and take care.

I needed a car that was more family friendly aka something that fit a car seat and had 4 doors. I was able to fit the infant seat in the Mini but not the actual car seat (they're big).

So I traded in my Mini for $8500 - It had 75,000 miles on it. I bought a weekly subscription to Galves to figure out what the wholesale price is (since that's what dealerships use) and not the KBB or Edmunds nonsense. Interestingly they only care if you have

1) Leather
2) Moonroof
3) Navigation
4) Sport

There is nothing for Cold Weather or Xenon lights etc.

I was hoping for $9000 but $500 wasn't going to make or break this for me. The reason is that my old man was getting rid of his car and he was going to trade it in so I traded mine in instead and paid him the difference since I needed to get a 4 door car anyway.

So long story short I am driving a 2011 Subaru Legacy Premium (leather / heated seats / Moonroof / Remote Start etc) - he only had 26,000 miles on it and I traded in the Mini for $8500 and gave him another $6000 for it since it's basically new and still has extended maintenance and warranty and saves me from having to buy something else which most likely would cost way more than 6k

You needed 4 doors and bought Subaru Legacy....when you could have had a 2011 Countryman sure, more money, but you could have kept a good deal of the Mini driving excitement...

My sister has a Subaru Legacy....wow.....to each his own....but, very sad indeed.....

Understand the change, enjoy. Your MINI was good looking, even with 75K on the clock, I think you undersold your MINI, more like 10K versus $8200++.

Enjoy the subie, they are a fun car two and probably a little better for the kid, ease of in and out.

But you could have had a Countryman and the fun of MINI, just say'n.

I've driven the Countryman and it's okay but the All4 is way overpriced. Now at least I have the AWD I wanted - there is not enough trunk space in the Countryman for me and I also worry about driving these cars after the maintenance/warranty is up - my priorities have changed and I need something reliable -

Everyone thinks their cars are worth more than they are going to get for them. I still have 5 days of the Galves subscription - let me know what car you drive and I will look up what it's really worth. - Unless you are going to sell it private party you have to use the Galves book. But like I said this was a spur of the moment thing for me so there was no time to wait around looking for a buyer.

interesting. When I purchased my 2007 MCS used, I went by blue book (all I had to go on) and it was valued at 18.5 and got it with extended warranty for 17.5. Felt that was fair.
They might not be able to go KBB, but they should haggle somewhat if you think they are lowballing you.

Good luck with your subaru. I am going the opposite direction. Kids are starting to get older and next purchase will be for kid's car so had to grab my toy now.

He wanted something more family friendly and that's what he bought. Get over it, it's not YOUR purchase. Keep getting "sad" over someone else's purchase.

He has 4 large doors, tons of leg room all around, a trunk that you can actually use without folding the rear seats down, AWD, safety and reliability. The last 2 being the only things the MINI shares with it. I say it was a smart purchase!

It's interesting when the dealerships sell you a car they will use KBB since it shows much higher prices for them and yet when they purchase that same car back from you they offer the Galves wholesale price since they have to "recondition it" to sell or it's going to auction. Seems to work in their favor 100% of the time.

Thanks InjectedGT - I thought it was a smart purchase hence the reason I jumped at it. I was going to drive the Mini another year and then have to start looking so I feel this is a win/win for me.
