Replacing oil feed line to turbo

Hello everyone, first of all I'm new to this forum!
But i need help, I'm in the process of fixing my mini cooper r56 s 2008. The turbo is leaking, and we've nailed it down to the problem of the feed lines leaking (dealer wanted to charge me $975 to replace it!). however I've been doing my research on the forums and I'd much rather replace it myself with the detroit tuned feed and supply lines. Just to get things clear, I won't need to put the car into service mode to change both the feed and return line? Also, are there any tutorials on removing the downpipe? I've searched but can't find any.
Thanks alot guys, I hope someone can help me out I'm sure I'll be back, this place looks cool!

Yes , wow what timing for this article for me1

I ALSO HAVE TURBO LEAKING OIL , 2009 R57 APRROX 40,000 MILES.

Have modified the little jewel, by
1. DDMWorks R56 Race Intake System ...best mod yet!!! bang for the buck! $420

2. WMW Performance Blow off Valve $65

3. Powerflex Lower Engine Mount Bushing R55 R56 R57 R58 R59 $36

Now, with the increasing pressure from I'm assuming the blow off valve, this caused, (perhaps?) leak at the turbo hose connections.

A mechanic noted a little oil residue around the turbo hose and , said no big deal just go and get the copper crush washers and replace them.

called mini dealer and have them just hope this isn't reoccuring problem with the increased pressure.

Please , anybody out there have better thoughts of what to do?

Kindest regards for the help!!

Thanks ocluck, however that instruction manual just lets me know that I need to remove the heatshields, downpipe, etc. I haven't gotten into the process yet as I'm waiting for the lines to come home tomorrow. The question is how do I remove them?

If you are going to be wrenching on your MINI, get a Bentley manual, it's worth every penny.

Both of the posters need to read this ENTIRE thread. All of your questions will be answered. To "keithville danny" : The leak was not caused by "increased pressure",.......The referenced thread will explain all.

Are you just replacing the oil feed line for the turbo? If so, do yourself a favor and disconnect the battery before you do it. The heatshield for the cat. is pretty close to the alternator.

Once you have the shields out of the way, its pretty simple after that. Remove the cat. converter. That'll give you access to the lower end of the feed line. Undo your bolts and snake the line out. No need to put the car in service mode.

Best of luck to you!

It's well documented on here that it is not simply the crush washer(s), the line itself needs replacing.

On the one I replaced I had to remove the top stud on the turbo for the down pipe as I could not get it out otherwise, but it came out easily enough by double-nutting it. MINI sells a shorter stud to replace it, I could see no reason for those really long studs anyway.

First time posting and I know this is and old thread but, my oil line went out about 100mi from my house today. It was smoking really bad and I couldn't afford to get it towed. my quick fix solution was to get some high heat silicone tape from advance auto and wrap it around the leaking part of the turbo line after spraying it with a bit of brakleen. No more leaks and I even pushed it on the highway 4-5 hard pulls from 4th to test its durability. It looks like it will hold until my Detroit tuned line comes in.
I hope this helps somebody in a bind!

The surface is warm but not so hot as to burn. If the wrap wasn't there and I would have tried that my skin would have been on that metal shield. It really keeps the heat effectively in.

DIY below.

While you are there I would do the oil filter gaskets, that's when I did mine.

Cleaning out the banjo bolt including the 4 hole on its sides, the coupling and cartridge from any caked oil was the fix for me. 1 week later and no leaks. I did not remove the entire pipe for my fix.
