Hi,
I have a 2007 mini Justa with 24k miles. When the engine is cold I hear a knocking sound. This only happens when I turn to the right, which I do everytime I pull out of my driveway. I only occiurs when the engine is cold and only when I make a sharp right turn. Once the engine is good and warm it doesn't happen. Any suggestions?

 

Wow not even any thoughts? Could it be suspension? I do not think it is engine since it involves turning? Maybe something in the steering?

 

With only 24K mi I wouldn't suspect a CV joint but that's what it sounds like. Have you tried making a sharp right turn with the engine off (coasting) while everything is still cold?

 

Thanks I will try that if it knocks with the engine off it is probably the cv joint right? Should the engine be turned off or just in neutral?

 

If you're truly trying to remove the engine from the equation, I would think you'd want the engine completely off. Bear in mind you'll lose your power steering and brakes in the process, so find a safe place to try it. Any unusual noise you hear will be from the CV joint or front suspension. Good luck.
