A whole thread (there are others, too) dedicated to it.

Have an assistant. It took my son and I about 30 minutes start to finish to put the base rack on.

First, be sure you have the right rack for your model. I've never seen an older model rack, but apparently they required drilling holes, which the newer series does not.

Next, get the instructions:
http://www.outmotoring.com/images/ho..._roof_rack.PDF
... but they are not very good.

The hardest step for me was finding the area in the rain gutter to cut away to reveal the hidden slots - I can provide measurements for locating the slots on 2010 a Cooper hardtop, if needed.

The next major issue for me was trying to figure out how the clamping mechanism is supposed to work. I am usually quite comfortable with do-it-yourself projects, but this thing is a PITA to install.

You will definitely need help, or scratched paint is all but certain.

Once installed, it's a great rack, but getting there is not as easy as it should be.

success!! thanks guys!!

The only issue i ran into was figuring out that the gold bolt goes entirely on top of the clamping part, i was somehow trying to wedge it in between the washers on the bolt. some cursing and a 20 minute break later to read up on the forum and problem solved! takes 10 minutes if you know what youre doing. also used a rubber mallet to make sure she was in the gutter

I installed mine last year and took very detailed pix on the whole process. I did the same for a N18 oil change. Work liked a dog this year and never had time to finish compiling a write up for either. Glad you got it figured out, though. Finding the perforations was the hardest part, I found, but it was not as difficult as I was led to believe.

I actually had no issue finding them either. Reading other threads/posts on roof rack install, it seemed that a lot of people couldn't find or had problems finding them. I thought the whole thing was pretty easy, actually. I recall it taking me around 45 minutes for the install. Considering the amount of pictures I took I think that's pretty good. I have some time off through New Years. Maybe I'll finally finish my write-ups.
