Where you located? 05 is pretty easy to do with just a hair dryer or heat gun.

Make me an offer for both the assembly and igniter and you’ll have something to practice on and perhaps sell when you are done. If I had the time I would invite you over and I could give you some courage. But unfortunately I won’t have even a minute until after the new year.

I live in Caldwell.

I just did my 2012 and yes I was stressed out doing it.. But it was pretty easy, it just takes a little time and patience with heat gun. You don't have to apply heat directly on the lens just near the edges and on the rear housing edges. Once the black adhesive softens up your in the right direction. Remember not to keep the heat in one spot for a long time. My first headlight took about 15 minutes and second took closer to 10.. Good luck. Oh yeah to reattach just heat the glue up a bit and push lens back into place.

Your car came out really good.. I can't get the chrome ring off. I tried it on my spare headlight and the little clips start cracking

Hmm maybe this will help. I've got an r56 and I believe you have an r53 where the rings are part of the lights. My ring are attached to my hood.. This may help

Judging from your name, you have a late model 1st gen. 02-04 headlights are sealed differently or with different adheasive and are a PITA to open up.

Yours are much easier. Chrome trim ring removal tip - unattach clips at BOTTOM of headlight first (x2) then just slide it upwards ! Goes back on same way....

Figured this out after wrapping a few headlight rings with vinyl.

No need to be scared man, headlight comes apart really easy and once you have the headlights out of the car you can take some time to really see how it is all put together.

Follow this thread!

I just did my car a couple weekends ago. (look at the last post)

Good luck!

You can go about it anyway you like but personally I wouldn't use the oven. To hard to control, to many other things that can melt. Using a heat gun is what I did and allows you to control the area your working on. Go slow and work around the headlight.

I used just regular spray paint off the shelf at an auto parts store. Paints holding up fine! The prepping I did was just use a scotch pad on the chrome bits and rough it up and get down to the plastic. Help give the paint something to bite to.

Also, after roughing up and cleaning the plastic, you can use an adhesion promoter to assist with the paint laying down without minimal imperfections, that is in the same area with the paint at any automotive store. I'm going to be doing this to the wife's car soon, mini 562's lights are day and night difference, and look killer in those photos
