Wastegate rattle N14?

So I've been trying to pinpoint the source of a rattling noise under the hood of my R56s. Timing chain is out of the picture since it was just replaced a few months ago.

It sounds exactly like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=SRY30OVgPSY

I'm aware of the service bulletin for the N18's wastegate rattle, but I have an N14. The only times I can reproduce it are on a cold start (happens until the car warms up), and under heavy load and low RPMs (up until the BPV releases).

Any help, please?

for what its worth my '12 jcw with n14 was making weird noise and they said it was wastegate rattle and it was "normal" i kept arguing it wasnt. turns out after multiple attempts that it was waterpump related. my wp went, then replaced, a week later i was getting another noise again, took it back and they replaced another part of the waterpump that i cant remember the name right now, but when they replaced it my "noise" they were referring to as a wastegate rattle went away. here's some videos i made

hope that helps

Damn that sounded bad:-(. Get your Mini fixed asap!!! They better not try to dodge this, it doesn't sound good from the videos. Btw, Absolute, did you paint those trim pieces for your headlights? I seen it in your video.

Heard many dealers telling people it is normal. I say NO, complain till they fix it.

I agree, I told my SA that my morning start up sounded bad...they didn't do jack crap about it. I kept telling him it's not normal. Next time I go into the service, he tells me that there's a recall on a part and is engine related. I get it fixed. For about two months now my car runs great in the morning, no more rattle in the morning, thank God.

Hi RobMuntean glad it's fixed...
Any further info on what this engine related recall part was and how long it took to replace, please? Is yours an N18 or N14, BTW?

this sound persisted through my timing chain replacement, so I dont know if it even could be timing chain related. Do you happen to have a video of what your wastegate rattle sounds like on a cold start?

I have a N18. But I had my chain tensioner replaced and coolant sensor the same day. Good luck, the dealer is always hesitant corporation. Even when I had those recalls done, I NEVER got a letter in the mail. But when I had a different recall done prior 3 months before that, they sent me a letter in the mail.

Oh nooo...! I bought into the N18 to escape the chain-tensoner stuff with my previous '09 N14 MCS. Mind you, yours is the first N18 chain tensioner replacement that I've seen on the forums so far. Glad it's sorted!

I thought that a couple of thermostats and sensors, the latest coolant sensor + elec. cradle recall and today's incarceration (no call from the garage yet) to investigate a very obvious oil pump solenoid oil leak/wicking issue, along with the DI coking issue in the future might be all I could look forward to with my latest MCS!

I'm beginning to regard my local Service Agent as being a new recruit to my social circle. She knows my voice on the phone now; I'll probably be needing to send her a Christmas card...

Why can't they design out these obvious weaknesses? Or at least solve them before the sale process.

My 07 MCS was making a rattle noise that seemed to be coming from the valve cover area. My dealer told me it was normal. I found a TSB stating that if a customer comes in complaining of a rattle remove the vacuum pump tube attached to the pump, if the noise goes away tell the customer it is normal. In my case it was the coupler that goes between the exhaust cam and the vacuum pump. I removed my pump and retrofit an electric pump. Here is the link to my post.
