noob question but what kind of tape?

Ok so my Mini Cooper has plastic trims everywhere especially on the lower bottom part of the car. I have never polished or waxed the car because I am still unsure on how to keep the plastic away from polish and wax. Anyway I researched and most of the "detailers" put tape over the plastic trims so it wont get polish or wax on it. Now when I did my research they did not really tell me what kind of tape they use. I found some "Meguiar's masking tape" in autogeek but is that the right tape? I am sorry for this noob question but any help would be appreciated! thanks for reading!

You could probably use any kind of masking tape. I have some left over blue painters tape from when I plastidipped so I use that.

Masking tape can leave a little adhesive residue behind.

I use the widest painter's tape I can find.

And make sure you put the edge of the tape on the body panel and not just the plastic trim. It won't stick to the plastic trim very well and when you polish and touch it, it comes loose. Just overlap the painted body panels by a quarter inch.

You'll get some polish/was residue along the edge when you pull the tape off, just wipe it off... good to go.

Blue painters tape. Any hardware store will carry it.

I like the green automotive painter's tape when you can find it. auto zone has it sometimes. I've seen it at MAB and sherwin williams too. Having said that i use the delicate surfaces blue painters tape in the 2" width that is available everywhere. walmart home depot etc. it leaves less residue in my experience.

Green... its not as sticky.

Don't use normal white ones... Leave so much glue behind.
