R50/53 MCS 2006 "Check Engine Soon Light"
MCS 2006 "Check Engine Soon Light"
Hi everyone!
Just bought a Mini Cooper S 2006 one month ago with 62K, everything was perfect until last week when the " Check engine Soon Light" appeared.
I decided taking the car to a mechanic (not official- service) and they told me that the oxygen sensors needed to be replaced. So i payed around $700 to replace them(Original pieces).
The problem is that only 2 days after i got the car back, the "Check Engine Soon Light" Appeared again. I dont know what to think and dont know if i should worry about or if the car has now another problem.
Hope someone can help me if had same problems, any help and comment would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks,
i take it you dont have a car scanner, soo take you car to either advance auto parts or auto zone and have them scan the car (its free), report back with the codes. and $700 for just an O2 sensor replacement is way to much i money i think. i think its like some where between 100-170 for an o2 sensor at a parts store, but even with labor it cant possible be that much
Thanks, They told me that each sensor was around $190 each because they were original pieces, i checked on the web and it is on price, the thing is that i dont know why the light came out again. I will try to go some of this places you told me to see if they can scan the car for free and see what is the problem.
Auto Zone 157 before cat and 202 after cat
advance auto parts same price
mini car parts 109
way motor works 175
Pelican parts 158

The problem is that i am not american and i have been living here for only one year, i dont have any mechanic i can trust so i just had to trust someone. Maybe i over payed but my worry is that the light after 2 days has lighted again.
Thank you very much!
Could someone tell me a mechanic i can trust in order to take my MCS in Orange County? I live In Costa Mesa so if its near would be much better!

hey man..I think it's already too late for me to tell you this, but I believe the o2 sensors are covered under warranty by bmw....I got one of mine replaced for free about a year ago at the bmw dealer
but then again mine is an 05....so I'm not sure..

FYI, from my experience with lawyers and mechanics that I paid to work for me, I would NOT trust them for the rest of my life and one more, dealer sales folks. I don't know about the country of your origin but this is how it is in US.
It is unfortunate that I have lost my trust in them altogether but I am sure there are some honest mechanics. I am sure they know there are way too many dishonest ones out there, representing the profession. As a general public, we are forced not to trust them.
$700 for replacing O2 sensors are down right rubbery which I know it took less than 10 min to install both of them. I tell you this is why I have not much of respect for those class of people.
Take it back and tell them to fix the problem. This is where you say, "I paid $700 so you will fix the problem but it is not fixed." They owe you the repair. If they don't fix the problem, I don't see the point of $700 that you spent.

Labor charges in this country are downright ridiculous. I will NEVER take my car to a mechanic...
Yes you are right. My service tech at the BMW/MINI dealership told me the o2 sensor is covered for 100,000 miles. They will not cover it unless they see the fault when you bring the vehicle in so do not reset the fault if you have it checked for free somewhere else and see that it is the o2 sensor causing your Service Engine Soon light to come on.
