where does your AC blow?

so, when using my AC on seemingly any setting, the air blows out of the front-most vents on the dash (all the way up, right under the windshield). *I am NOT referring to the air cabin vent in the middle, above the speedo**

if i put the ac on face, it blows face and windshield.
if i put the ac on foot, it blows foot and windshield.
face and foot = face, foot, windshield.

so, does anyone elses AC always blow out of the front defrost vent? or is it just my mini? i wouldnt care, but here in FL with super high humidity, when I use the AC in the morning, at night, when it rains (almost always) the windshield fogs up, and i cant see. so i have to use wipers when its dry out, ect ect and all the other annoyances with this. not to mention, thats that much more air that is NOT hitting me in the face when its 95 degrees outside!

so, Where does YOUR AC blow?! pls let me know, so i can have mini Fix it if its a problem!

I pulled this together from old posts on here when I was having issues. I hope it helps:
Here is some more information that may be useful to diagnose the automatic A/C systems that BMW refers to as IHKA.

There is an on board diagnostic built into these systems, what follows is the procedure on how to access the on board diagnostics: The system has three modes. MODE1 - Shows any fault codes stored in the system. MODE2 - performs a calibration run of the doors that control mix and air distribution. MODE3 - provides for manual operation of the features.

Put the ignition in position 2 then press the OFF and blower PLUS buttons together for two seconds, the display will show a single streamer to represent MODE1. Each time the OFF button is pressed a different mode is displayed; to access any mode the AUTO button is pressed. In MODE2 the servo motors can be heard cycling from open to close position, this movement is detected by potentiometers built into the motor assembly. assuming the doors are still coupled to the motor shaft then the motors and doors will cycle and not give any errors, if the doors are not coupled to the servo shaft the system has no way of knowing and will cycle the motor end to end as reported by the sensor in the motor and everything will appear to be OK. Otherwise MODE1 will give any errors the system detects. There are 10 possible codes. I will post if anyone is interested.

Code Description
01 Solar Sensor Fault
02 Interior Temp Sensor Fault
03 Heater Core Temp Sensor Fault
04 Air distribution servomotor feedback fault
05 Blend Flap Servomotor feedback fault
06 Blower switch minus fault
07 Blower switch plus fault
08 Interior sensor fan fault
09 Air distribution servomotor fault
10 Blend flap servomotor fault

The display will show either CA=Calibration Active; CC=Calibration Complete or FF=Fault.

where does your AC blow?

03 R53 MCS.
Auto set on 68degreesF
Mode 2 turns on all the leds, displays CA and moves the doors.
When it's done, it turns off the leds and displays CC.

Mode 3 turns on the front defrost led and shows 3 left side fan ticks and 1 right side fan tick and my 68 degree F setting.

Mode 1 shows one left and one right fan tick and alternates the codes FF and 00

The front defroster (first time i tested it today) blows out the narrow slits at the base of the windshield
and the two holes on top of the dash aimed at the side glass.

The floor setting closes all the doors and blows to the floor.
The front vent blows out the four dash vents and the top vent behind the speedo.
When on Auto, it blows out the same five vents but more out the top than out the four dash vents.
Today is the first time I noticed that it blows out the top vent behind the speedo.
I was wondering why the volume of air aimed at me has been steadily decreasing over the last two months.

I also found an old link:

I have the same issue with my '06 MCS, but since I live a bit further north and like having the windows open as much as possible, it generally doesn't bother me unless it's close to 100.

It blows where I tell it to blow, or on Auto, wherever it feels like...

on Auto AC it blows out the FACE 4 vents+ the big @SS one on the dash ( I hate that vent). On heat it blows on the feet and defrost on the windshield.

I have the same problem that is stated. I too live in FL, so my windows fog up. The easiest way to fix it that I have found, is to set the air on 66 degrees. It almost immediately clears up the windows, and they don't fog. On low though, I get a very very foggy windshield.

Blocked that off. Blows much harder.

Last night I pulled off the top dash. Four bolts,5 min. I made a block off plate with some rubber I had laying around the house and put the dash back on. The dash holds the rubber down and now no air comes through the top vent and my dash vents blow harder. 30 min total job and much cooler car.

Cool. Pun intended.

Now just pray you didn't create a dash rattle.

I just accessed my code in mode 1 using your directions.
It said 00 and FF
What does that tell me?
