FS: Bi-Xenon Retrofit plug and play headlights

Category: Lights
Price: $750
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part fits (you may select multiples): R56
Location (Region): NorthEast
Item Condition: Used

Selling a set of bi-xenon retrofit headlights that came off my 2010 Mini Cooper S - they are a duplication of the factory bi-xenon headlights but with the black background for the sportier look. I would love to keep them but I have since traded the car in with another set of halogen headlights installed and these are now for sale.

The retrofit was performed by Black Flame Customs in NY.

The headlights have been reconditioned by Black Flame Customs for the purpose of resale.

The only defect to the headlights is that one bracket is missing on the passenger side headlight but with the remaining 3 bolts holding it, the light remains stable and does not detract from the performance of the whole kit.

Price is $750 or best offer. Please refrain from any unreasonable low-ball offers.

I can be reached at fmalgapo@storagedeluxe.com or via PM.

Just a caution, not trying to ruin your sale, but...

I don't think these are plug-and-play with 2011+ cars. I had to make a custom wiring harness for use with mine, otherwise they would just flicker and never turn on. This may not be the case with whatever ballasts Black Flame Customs uses but I would imagine that this is the case.

Were your headlights retrofitted by Black Flame Custom? The lights I am selling use the factory connectors that are the same for halogen or bi-xenon that are still factory, non modified whatsoever. The only modification is the internal wiring within the headlights that power the ballasts.

The lights I used are ones I built myself but they use the same concept as your BFC lights; just a ballast sitting between the car and the bulb. My bulbs were flickering because of the power the car was sending out, it shouldn't have had anything to do with my lights.

BFC may put something inside the lights to prevent the flicker but I would bet that they do not and probably don't even know of the problem being there in newer cars.

They just changed so many little things in '11 that it wouldn't surprise me for this to be a new problem created in the crossover.

So I would probably list them as definitely compatible with 07-10' but buy at your own risk with '11+ or offer a return on the '11+.

To fix my problem, I had TheRetrofitSource.com create a custom harness for me. This has one input from the passenger headlight harness, two outputs (one for each ballast), a capacitor, a relay, and a ground and hot wire to grab power from the battery.

The capacitor levels out the flickering power to a steady ~5vdc stream. This weaker power tells the relay that the headlights should be on so the relay flips over to grab power directly from the battery and goes out to feed the ballasts. So the car is actually only feeding a small relay and never directly touches the headlights (power-wise). The headlights get all of their actual power directly from the battery. This is actually thought of to be safer for the car since the ballasts require so much power to ignite the bulbs, the power spike may interfere with other components of the car if using the stock wiring, I know this was the case with my old car.

The custom part was the capacitor before the relay, it is needed to act as a type of conditioner/filter for the flickering power and level it out, most other cars just use the relay.

Thank you.

Spoke with Black Flame Customs and the 11+ will require a $25 resistor to alleviate the flickering. The lights are still plug and play and will work on 11+ but will require as above.

If you own an '11+ Mini and are interested, I am willing to work with you.
