Knocking noise from back under carriage

HI,

I have a 2008 MCS and I been hearing a knocking sounds like something is not secured or fasten down. It seems like the sounds is coming from the back and under the carriage. The sounds comes up if I hit a bump on the road. I read that it may be the bushing.

Anyone have this experience or an idea what it may be?

What steps/procedures to check it out to verify the source of the problem?

Thanks,

JC

Have you lifted and supported the car to verify all components are tight and there's no loose hardware?
I'd start there along with checking bushings and mounts.

Got a spare tire? Check that it is secure and snug against the tire well.

Rear anti-roll bar bushes are the most common problem - takes 1/2 hour max to replace and parts cost £9uk (approx $12)
I replaced mine at 50000 miles

Are you kidding? I didn't even get out of the dealer's lot before I pulled mine off. That's like 25 lbs in weight saved.
I bet you can't find a single decent R56 MCS driver with their factory spare still under there.

Going with Bluefoxx on this one. Also be sure to check for clearance along the exhaust system. Heat shields can get bent and make contact. Its an odd noise.

Could be your rear hatch... my issue below:

I had this and solved it/sourced it to my trunk. The latch receptor on the car side (not the hatch side), does not hold on to the U latch on the hatch perfectly/snugly. So when you hit a bump, it makes a small clack noise. To fix it, simply wrap the U receptor on the hatch in electrical tape, never happens again.

I brought this up to the dealer and they replaced the receptor on the car/chassis, and fixed it for a month, then it came back. Back to the electrical tape it went.

MCS with spare? Under the car? Where would it go? Exhaust is in the center, gas tank takes up both sides....

AFAIK there was never a spare for the R56??

4xAAA's implication that I am not a 'decent R56 MCS driver' is at the same time, correct (R56 justa), hyperbolic, and rude. Additionally, there should be a comma between the coordinating adjectives '...single, decent....'

Let me offer my apologies. I intended the comment to be humorous, not an insult. The excessive exaggeration was meant to give glint to my wit. Communication is equal parts sender and receiver. I regret that I failed in my portion.
I hope you found my advice, after the affront, helpful. Both the MCS and the MCa heat shields can be bent easily. A corner making contact with the exhaust can sound like a metallic scrape or a hammer hitting the floor. Just depends on location.

Oh, and I am giggling, one more thing. I abuse commas terribly. I throw them around like corn for chickens. But, I do not use them amid hierarchical adjectives. These two fail the reversal test in this usage. "a decent, single r56..." carries an entirely different meaning.

If you could hear my accent, you would be laughing at me right now. Peace out.
