Love for Base Countryman Non-S

Hello! This is my first posting on here. I appreciate all the postings and threads on the CM. Very informative, I've been reading up in this forum a lot before I bought my CM 2012. I just picked mine up yesterday and I love it! I agree it does not have the pick up but hey, has all the styling that I am looking for at a fair price.

There should be a forum for base CM's! I noticed majority of the members here have either an S or a All4 (I can't blame you) and rarely anyone has mentioned about the base model! I guess us base people just hide and ashamed or we are just a different breed. haha. Anyways, hope that everyone still has love for the base CM!

Thanks again, Cheers,

No shame here !!!!!!!!!!

I've been driving a base MINI for 10 years and posting on this site since
it was "MINI Cooper on Line". My first MINI was an '02 PW/B followed by an '06 SR/S and now my wife drives a 2012 CM and we love our base Coopers.
It was never about the speed for me... it's the handling, just love to carve up secondary roadways with lots of twisties I know I'm having fun cause a set of tires never lasts over 20m miles and I've gotten zero speeding tickets in ten years ! If you know what your doing and drive a stick, these high reving base engines give you all the "go" you need

We love our "base" Coopers !

Went to purchase a Clubman but wanted a Countryman. Saw one on a lot before the release date and we were hooked. Ordered in December 2010. Love the justa!

Although I have the S All4, I think the CM Justa is a cool car!

The grill was one of the deciding factors for me choosing the base model (along with lower price, better gas mileage, and the fact that I'm no speed demon). I just love the chrome, you don't see too much of it anymore.

I used to be a speed demon, did drag racing, autox, road racing ect. When I lived in a bigger city I needed the extra power to get along in traffic. Now that we moved to a small town I feel that my Justa is just fine most of the time.

I love it as it still handles well, is comfy and looks really good- I also prefer the non-s Grill, no catfish for me. I chose getting a few more options instead of an S or All4, plus the better gas mileage and not needing premium was nice. My husband loved mine so much he got a R56 Justa of his own and he loves it.

If I had to do it over again, there are some days I would get an S, some days I would get an All4, but then I think about the urge to modify a turbo car and the issues that go along with it and I am perfectly happy with my Justa.

Proud base owner here... I did the auto-x and drag racing thing in the past, but no so much anymore. Had no real need for the turbo or the awd so i went with the base model. Very happy with it after the first 3000miles. JOSH

I love my Justa Countryman! When the Countryman first came out I was thinking the S all the way, until I saw the price. $10,000 more than a Justa! I couldn't believe it. So I reluctantly drove the Justa and I loved it. I knew that I would never take my car to a track and I couldn't afford to floor it on public roads because I would get a ticket so I bought the Justa. I prefer the grille anyway on the Base. Looks awesome with the spot lights which comes with a chrome grille. Much better I think than poor sad Mr S. No regrets. Love my Mannie!

^^Is that correct?! That's shocking! Is it possible you meant $1,000. - or something closer to that?

No typo. The S is $10,000 more than the Justa in Australia. I paid $46,000 for my Justa. It seems crazy because our dollar is the same as the US dollar but the cars have to travel so far and for a much smaller population. So, paying $56,000 for a S was out of the question. But because they're expensive for such a small car you don't see many on the road which makes them very unique. In fact, I have never seen a Countryman out in the wild. Mine is the only one out there in my side of town. I've only had my car for a week and people smile and point. It's very funny and such a blast.

Our "justa" is on order, and with a family, it was a very easy determination to go for the base. LESS MONEY, still cool.

It is a pleasure to drive Brown Betty. I never drove the S we test drove the Base and fell in love on the spot. Only change I made was to order the sport seats (that come standard in the S) More than adequate acceleration and once you learn how to use the steptronic, you have a really fun car to drive. What I love is the ability to take 3 passengers comfortably on a not so short trip and the fact that I don't have to use premium. (it can run on 87 but likes 89 better) Would I buy a base again you better believe I would.

I alomost purchased the base countryman because it was a better value. I took for a test drive and did fine on side streets, however getting up to speed on the on ramp to a hwy thought the engine was going to explode. I waited several months to find a used S.

I agree! I think there is more value in the base. I don't think it will explode but you do have to push it. I would have considered a used S except I wanted a 5 seater instead of the 4 and I couldn't wait for a used 2012! I wanted one bad! Maybe in a few years I'll trade up for a S.

Watch your tach man, these are highrev engines they are designed with a redline at 6750rpm when you hit 4500 it's just reaching the " power band" it can take it just fine !
