Sometimes it's called a heat insulator and is attached to the inside of hood to minimize the heat on the hood and may reduce engine noise too. All my previously owned vehicles had one. Just curious because I've seen some Countryman's with it but I think they were S models.

BMW stopped putting them in some models. The S has it and it may be to prevent paint damage due to the heat generated by the turbo, whereas the bean counters decided it was not needed for the regular motor.

If I want to do that myself, I can simply use dynamax as heat insulator, right? I hope it can lower the engine noise for me.

Have had my Mini CM for 3 weeks now, and luv'n it more each day. Only had 6.5 weeks to wait for it, which then seemed forever, but now it was all worth it.

Here's ours....Dr. Phibes.... Ordered in November and picked up December 21st. Just finished a lot of color-matching and blacked out the grille. Went with the justa due to the problems with the turbo's and the carbon build up besides we have an 06 S JCW to go fast in....

Love all this Non-S CM pride! And I like the black Non-S grilles in the previous couple posts (I plastidipped mine and I really like how it turned out).

We Non-S owners seem to be the red-headed stepchildren of the MINI family. I was in the Baltimore dealer a few weeks back--it was a slow day and I actually overheard one of the MA's call my CM a "wannabe S" (given my blackened grille and viper stripes).

What the what?

Ha, aren't ALL CM owners red-headed step children? I think the 4 doors push the purists right over the cliff

You make a fair point. However, I'll see you and I'll raise you--all us BMW MINI owners are the red-headed stepchildren to the classic Austin Morris Mini purists.

I saw a Morris Mini at British Car Day in MD earlier this month which had numerous stickers declaring that his car contained no BMW parts. And it had a Calvin peeing on BMW MINI sticker in the back window.

got me there for sure....but you know, classic or not, I don't think I would want a Mini that didn't have any BMW parts..as sketchy as the reliability of current Minis seem to be, I can't imagine how it would be without bavarian components!

I do have a concern though, that as BMW continues to try to save money, Minis will continue to lose their identity. It has been widely mentioned, for instance, that the center speedo, the ultimate salute to the Mini Cooper rally racing heritage, will be gone in 2014....they moved the window switches to the doors on the 2013 CM's, and it appears they will be putting 3 cylinder engines in 2014 Minis that will be shared with the BMW 1 series....That's part of the reason we jumped on board now....my wife would die if the Mini she bought didn't have the big ole' speedo right where it is now...

Shared parts won't necessarily make MINI lose its identity, if done correctly. And FWIW, several models of the classic Mini did not have a center speedo either.

Magna Flow makes exhaust for base model. Got one on order now should have it by next week. I have the AFE dry panel filter from DOS. Color matched door handle, headlight trim rings and blacked out front grille. Strut brace from Outmotoring. I like the ride height as is so I haven't looked into springs but they do exist.

Also torque arm bushings make a world of difference. Had them put on at MOTD and noticed immediately.

Are you not afraid that by changing the inside of the headlight housing you might effect the designed efficiency of the headlights?
That being said, it is a pretty sharp looking mod!

I only did the chrome trim pieces. The housings are OEM black xenons that were purchased as an option.

I didn't get the S because I really hate how the front grill looks like on the S. Although now I regret not having that extra power, and I really love the look of the dual exhaust... Wish there was something I can do to add the supercharger and the dual exhaust on my '12 standard countryman. Still hate the black sad face front grill on the S though
