R56 XL Warranty - worth it?
XL Warranty - worth it?
So I've searched a number of threads and let's face it - the search function sucks.
I am picking up my 2012 MINI (justa) tomorrow and am considering the XL Extended Warranty (not the maintenance plan, the warranty). My dealer in OK was giving me vague numbers but I called several from TX and CO who quoted me $2100 for the XL.
My question is - should I buy it now and wrap it into the loan or wait 2 years to burn thru the factory warranty (4 yrs/50k miles - we drive +20k a year) and risk the warranty jumping in price? I like option two because it gives us 50k miles to learn if our car will be fine like many Justa Coopers or if it's a cantankerous one that needs the XL.
Also - really thinking the Extended MAINTENANCE plan is a joke. Especially if I can get anticipated work like rotors done at a 3rd party shop. I plan to change my own oil as well.
PLEASE offer any sage wisdom on these issues. Thanks all!

Over here they were offering it for $1800. I might not get it cuz I like modding and Im not guna pay that money now and void the warranty in a month or two lol. If you dont plan on modding then I would go with it.
I spoke with MINI of Plano, TX (Sewell) and they quoted me $2230 for their third party insurance thru GMAC that seems to cover even more on the MINI with no deductable. anyone have experience with GMAC?
And Automan, where did you get that warranty for $1800? Ill call that dealer today as well!

I have a third-party warranty through Allstate. Its a $100 deductible, then covers hourly service rates of up to 145/hr. Sewell in Plano is slightly higher, so I have to cover the difference. However, this is _much_ better than paying full price for parts/labor.

Thanks for the info, folks. Heading up to the MINI dealer now to close everything out.
I'll double check and see if the GMAC Warranty covers total labor/parts cost or partial. That's a good question I never would have thought to ask.
I'll check this again while we're waiting if anyone has last minute advice.

I am curious why you want to add the Extended Motorer Protection now, buying the car new. It's an extension to the factory warranty, so there's really no reason to spend the money on it until you are nearing the end of your factory warranty.

Went ahead and bought the 3rd party warranty thru NAC after comparing it to MINI XL. It was easier to roll it into the loan and not have to worry abt anything down the road.
Buckethead- we chose to do it now because the price increases the more miles you put on the car. So waiting till mile 45k was way more expensive.
Worst case scenario it was a $2k mistake. Not a major issue in the grand scheme of things.
