I do! And my dealer can't fix it.

Basically, after 4k rpms, the rattles appears and you can just move the stick to the left (while in gear) and it'll go away...but once you let go, it's back...is it the plastic? Is it the stick? The gear box? Who knows....right now, not my dealer.

They ordered a practically new gear stick and surrounding parts but they still say it's doing the same thing (they test drove it themselves after swapping it out and agreed it wasn't resolved so are keeping the car another day to see what else they can do). They're trying, I'm certainly not discrediting their work, they've been great with me and I hope they can fix it.

My SA also mentioned calling MINI USA who is aware of this problem. So, I'm asking my famed MINI colleagues if anyone else suffers from the minor rattling noise.

I do, but it only appeared once I installed a shortshift, so I can't blame Mini for that.

At first I thought it was the coins in the ashtray or something because it's only when the shifter is on top...my advise is to make your car loud enough so you can't hear it

I think there was something like this discussed on M2.....some people had luck replacing/re-aligning the shifter cables where they enter the engine compartment...I have it too, but I am waiting for my next service to bring it to the dealer's attention...

Dealer is keeping the car over the weekend. MINI engineering is sending new shifter cables to see if that'll help. They'll arrive on Monday.

I thought about the bushings...I'll have to bring this up with them and see.

I don't have a rattling but "buzzing" after 4k rpm's (regardless of gear) and I remember reading a thread that this is tranny buzz is common with all manual transmissions. Oh and it does go away by just putting my hand on the shift, but I prefer it go on the st. wheel, hehe. But I guess, a rattle is a different story! Good luck!

Mine ocurrs right at 4K rpm, not 3900 or 4100, right at 4K. They told me it was my after market exhaust so that pretty much let them off the hook. The thing is, the rattle and buzz were there before the exhaust but impossible to prove now. Good luck to you though.

I think "buzzing" is a better term frankly. It's the same issue....I have the Borla race exhaust but they still wanted to fix this...I told them I've had it since I've had the car (which is true). I just never bothered to get it looked at until now.

I have the buzzing in third gear only. In fact - every stick car I've owned - my MCS, and excort and two Mustangs all had this. So I'm thinking it's quite normal.

I drove a MINI corporate car the other day that had the same rattle. Of course this car was bone stock. Not to say that the exaust isn't the cause, just that it can't be claimed that it is an aftermarket only issue.

Add me to the list. I haven't noticed it in 1st but it's been there in 3rd since day one. Same thing, load the lever to the left just a little and it goes away. I'm thinking that it's light contact to some component rather than the cables etc. BTW the car just turned 10,000 miles and the only reason to visit the service department was to have the rear fogs activated.

I have this problem too. 6500 miles on my MCS. Haven't spoken to dealer about it, but I'm going to try to add some insulation or felt to the shifter rod under the shift boot to try and cancel out the buzzing.

Haf...just saw this thread. This is exactly the same buzzing rattle I have. Do let me know if MINIUSA comes through for you. The cable replacements (and housing as well) did not do the trick for me. I was surprised that the service manager said I'm the first owner who had the problem after they did all the replacements.

Annoying

I have been noticing mine for a while now but I just figure out that it was the shifter today.

Has annyone had any luck getting this issue resolved? Should I even bother taking my MINI in?
