Seatbelt Warning - Ghost Rider

I thought this was interesting. I had an interesting run-in with my seat belt warning. I was just leaving the gym and my mini started to beep at me that my seat belt wasn't plugged in. I redid mine and still nothing. Then I realized it was telling me the passenger seat was the one not buckled. No one else was in the car with me, except that I had tossed my gym bag on the seat! I guess it was heavy enough to make the mini thing a person was sitting there. Once I pushed it to the floor the warning went away. Kind of crazy I didn't think my bag was all that heavy .

I've experienced this a couple of times .. I have no exact knowledge of the exact weight nor area etc that needs to be exceeded. My guess would be somewhere between 2-4 kg (4-8 lbs?) ..

I suspect that this is to ensure that kids and babies are secured aswell while sitting on the front seat ?!

What happened with the passenger air bag? Did it stay off like it should?

It is just an annoying alarm, no exploding airbags or other flashy Hollywood effects.

I haven't had this happen yet, but I am thinking about getting one of these for when it does.

Another comment on this seat belt issue. Early on in my relationship with Jack, I kept hearing a rattle coming from the rear seating area. Investigation later proved the seat belt metal buckle things were vibrating against the hard plastic molding in the doorway. I solved this annoyance by buckling each of the rear seat belts.

Ditto on both...purchased my chimex months ago for the same reasons. In particular my flight bags...and both rear belts are fastened to eliminate the clanking

I saw this product during my usual search for new countryman parts and dissmissed it. now i'm looking at it again after my cellphone with aux input cable set mine off! my wife thought something was wrong with the car when it happened to her also. this car may be too smart for its own good

Thats strange. Like Miniblue2 asked I would be interested if the airbag was still deactivated? It should be deactivated until there is enough weight in the seat to show that a "person" of enough weight is sitting there.

I was looking through the owners manual and saw that the rear buckles actually slide all the way up to where the belt comes out at the top of the seat and slides inside the housing. This prevents it from rattling and you don't have to keep them buckled all the time.
