Sorry if this is an old topic, I did a search and found conflicting info.
We have an 04, and when I go into TONE LIN mode and hit the music note, the only options I see are for NAVI and RESET. The stereo manual says SPEED VOL (for the speed dependant volume) should e located here. Should this work on an 04 HK stereo?
Thanks

The HK does in fact have speed dependent volume... but it's not adjustable, and quite subtle. So subtle that how well it actually works is questionable. I have it, and don't notice the volume increasing ever.
no speed-sensitive setting but it does have a "driver" setting that affects output of the sound from the passenger side so that it hits your right ear at the same time the sound from the left side of the car hits your left ear....as if it were pushed to the speaker first.....this is a recommended setting when only the driver is in the car.
i leave it on the "driver" setting but honestly i can't tell a difference.

I have a Jan 03 build MCS with the HK and it has speed sensitive volume adjustment. Just press and hold the note key until "TONE LIN" comes up. Then press the note key once to display/adjust SPEED VOL from 1 to 6 using the volume ****. Pressing the note key again give NAVI MIN (even though I don't have a NAV system) allows you to adjust it between -9 and +10. Pressing the note again allows you to RESET? the setting.
To be quite honest I don't think the SPEED VOL does anything with the HK as far as I can tell...
Be sure to check this thread out too: May 03 thread on Speed volume & HK

dominic - the manual describes that procedure for setting the speed volume, but my car doens't have that option
hafid - I've tried the DRIVER setting, and it really does make a difference to my ears.

I have an 03 MCS with the HK. On my original head unit, I did not have speed volume control. I had the HU replaced due to a faulty display and now I have the speed volume. I would bring this up next time you are at the dealer for service. I also noticed that the new head unit sounds better. That may just be me though.
My '04 is just a couple of weeks old and does have speed sensitive volume, that works just fine. Read the manual that is just for the HK. I have heard some in the past did not receive this manual, but my car came with it.

Bob, we have almost the exact same car
The manual for the radio I have says "RADIO BOOST CD" on the front. Is that the one you are talking about? If not, how does yours describe setting the SSV?
This is wierd that some cars have this feature and some don't.

Again, the HK system does have speed sensitive volume, but it is NOT adjustable. This is independent of the Driver spatialization setting that is available with some of the sound field adjustments.
Some of the older head units have a speed senisitive volume adjustment setting which you can make changes to, however it has NO EFFECT and what the HK system actually does... This setting only affects non-HK systems. The confusion that setting adjustment was causing is why it stopped appearing on the HK units.
However, unlike speed sensitive systems in other cars (my experiences are with the GM system) the adjustments in the MINI HK system are extremely subtle, if you are not listening closely when it happens you won't notice it. Not only that but it's not always enough to compensate for increases in engine and wind noises at increased speed, let alone increases in revs during spririted driving.
