R50/53 New Swap idea
What if you ordered the S engine WITHOUT the supercharger and intercooler. The MCS engine has better internels then the MC engine right? Will the S engine fit in the MC bay? if you could fit the MCS engine into the MC bay, then you could install a turbo, and have one really cool standered Cooper. YES, i know i would need a new tranny to handle the power.
But what do u think of the idea?

The Cooper and S engines are identical. Maybe some internals are different, but not enough to make a swap difficult or anything... I ask... why bother? Just get a Cooper and pop on a turbo... a friend of mine is doing that. You can order a MCS tranny from Mini Mania for like $3500. Or just buy an S and be happy with it, do some light mods, they're faster than you think.
Besides, you cannot make special requests at the factory. My best advice is to not mess with it, these modern engines are fidgety enough as is.

Cooper and "S" engines are very different. Crankshaft, rods, and pistons. Even the way the pistons are oiled is different. But really, why not just get an "S" or better yet a JCW "S".

Sounds like fun if you have money to burn.
Using numbers stated above.
MC+engine+transmission=$16,449+2,500+3,500=$22,449
plus you still need a turbo
MCS=$19,899
For those of us without cash lying around we are better off buying the S and $2,550 in mods.

There's a better way:
1. Buy an MCS in one of the color combos that is also available on an MC.
2. Convert to turbo with front mounted intercooler (it's been done - pics somewhere on these forums).
3. Buy/install someone's MC bumpers, skirts, grill, etc after they've installed the aero kit (pieces should be cheap and pleantiful).
4. Buy/install MC hood.
5. Remove "S" badging and replace side grills with MC pieces.
6. Sell MCS body and induction pieces to recoup much of your investment in parts.
Viola..... Turbo 6-speed MC
Unless you got lucky with junkyard finds, I think an MCS engine and tranny swap into an MC would nickel-and-dime you to death just with all the linkages, mounts, harnesses, etc. that you would likely have to buy. Plus the quality of the job would depend on a serious attention to detail.
Entertaining to think about, but IMHO, I can think of much better things to do with my time and money.
Cheers,
James
