Dump the clutch at 3500, but I wouldn't do this too often.

It also depends on whether you have CD36 (or above) software. In my 3 previous versions -- 32 and several 33's -- I had stumble and over-aggressive traction control. These definitely impacted how one "launched" the car in that considerable attention needed to be paid to slipping the clutch and/or revs. Now, with 36, I just drive away like any other car....and I don't have to remember to turn my traction control (integrated with DSC on my car) off.

True enough

I hardly ever look at the tach....
Learn to drive by the feel of the car and the sound of the engine...
It will come w/ time and it's the only way to drive

Peace,
D

The tricky part of this car at first for me was not so much engaging the clutch
from a 3500rpm or so rev, but how you quickly but progressively let off the gas pedal when you near redline without a nose dive.

When I launch, i don't power shift; I just launch quickly and smoothly and try
to be as easy on the tranny as much as possible (this is a habit from driving
the WRX for a couple of years. )

It will mess up my clutch?

Oh, that's mean

OK, so it looks like the best run (fastest at a given time) was run 2 (slightly). Looks like that run was launched at 3500 rpm, progressed to 6000 rpm then shifted to 2nd gear. I think I get that. But what's the significance of "(14.745@93.61)" ???

The best run was slipping the clutch a bit. The numbers like 14.745@93.61 mean the ET and the trap speed in MPH. I've logged a bunch of other runs too, and have found the best results are NOT dumping the clutch. A bit of slip and a bit of wheelspin does the trick.

I can't tell from the graphs if the clutch was dumped or released more gently (slipped).

Makes sense. I suppose you want the maximum torque on the wheels without spinning them. But if you aren't spinning them a little but, you won't know if you are maxing out the torque at the wheels. Clutch dumping just spins the wheels to much. Practice, practice, practice!

Precisely! Wheels actually need to slip some in order to have traction. But, slip too much, and traction goes down.

Andy,

Looking at your chart, you show the 3 runs, with the et and speed, twice. Didn't you mean to show the et and launch rpm in the second set ?
