R50/53 Does anyone have the Oxford Plant email address?
I have a very early build date (1/16/02) MCS. I asked MINIUSA if I could find out what # MCS I had. They said the Vin #'s are randomly selected (which makes no sence to me) so they didn't know. They did tell me production of the "S's" began in 1/02. Mine has to be a low # so I guess I need to contact the factory. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm with MINI USA "Ryephile" is correct, well not about the "dummies" part, but about the "sequential" part. Although the numbers are sequential, this doesn't necessarily reflect the point in time your MINI was produced. We have been asked this question before but, unfortunately, we do not have that information.

MINI Division,
Thank you so much for responding. I know the point in time my MCS was produced,(Jan 16th 2002). What I'm trying to determine is, what # is the car as far a the "S" model goes. Was it #11. #128, or #309? Surely that information is available. It's not very important now, but as time goes on and if it is a very low number, it could increase the value of the car when it gets old enough to be a "classic". I know, it's already a classic, I mean in a collectable status situation as in 20 years from now. Would that information be available from the factory? Thanks again for your help.

It is likely the factory keeps exact records of each MINI ever built and in what sequence it was at the assembly line.
I think your best bet is to find a BMW/MINI serial number decoder. I believe I came accross one in the internet at some point in time.

Here's one, but it doesn't work here at...work... something about a proxy server...can anyone else get it to work correctly?

It didn't work. It rejects both of my MINIs serial numbers. I think it is looking for a different variable code and it is meant only for BMW cars.
I think within that same page there is a decoder for MINI VIN numbers.

I'm with MINI USA. Well thanks for the warm welcome, Jsun, Cooper4us and Countrym. Minizila: The VIN is a combination of information such as vehicle description, model year, plant etc. I'm really not sure how or where you can find the information about what number MCS you have. I hope this helped a little.

MINIDivision,
Is there a way to find out exactly what day your car finished production? Over the weekend my car finished production but I don't know if it was Saturday night or Sunday morning. I don't have any kids yet, so this is like my first child.

This is amazing!!    Wonder if (s)he eats burgers and drinks coke like the rest of us??
I too am curious about the VIN sequence and information. While I have lots of info on my other British Cars, courtesy BMIHT, I'd like to have the MINI sequence explained. How 'bout it MINIDivision?

MINIDivision,
Thanks again. I really do appreciate your responce. I realize all the letters and numbers in the VIN have a meaning. My original question was, what number MCS do I have? The known facts are, my car was built on Jan 16th 2002. It was built 15 or 16 days into the production of the "S"(depending on if New Years Day was a holiday). I was at the dealer the day it arrived. It was the only "S" in a group of about 30 cars. I'm guessing the production number would be low. Could you give me the email address of someone at the Oxford plant who may have the information? Again, thanks for the reply.

I'm with MINI USA. Hey jbing, you can find out when your car completed production if you call 866 ASK.MINI and give them your Vehicle Identification Number. Congratulations by the way! Minzila, I don't have any more information on which number your MINI is. Cars are taken on and off the line fairly often. That makes it tough to attach a number to it. That's also one reason why the sequential numbering isn't exactly "sequential" as was brought up earlier in this thread. MGCMAN, if what you're looking for is a breakdown on the VIN, we can get that for you. Just call us at 866 ASK.MINI and provide an address where we can send you the information. An email address would work fine as well. I hope this answered some questions.

The VIN's are NOT random, they are sequential. What are your last seven characters?
