Wheel selection, I have a headache.

I've been looking all over, reading lots of posts and I have a headache so I thought I'd just start a new thread. I'm trying to figure out which wheels/tires to get for my Mini. So far I'm considering the Breyton Race GTS-R and replica R112 or 113's.

Not sure yet on size but I'm leaning towards 17" and I also need to stay at stock height because it is a leased car. Any suggestions for what would look best on stock suspension with minimal wheel gap? Should I just go with the standard Mini tire size of 205/45 R17 or 205/40 R18? I keep seeing all sorts of different tire sizes people use and I'm completely confused.

On last thing! The replica R112's have an offset of 42 whereas the OEM's offset is 48. What impact is this going to have?

Please help Thanks a lot!

I like the GTRs - will be considering them for my next MCS if I can justify the cost.

Go to www.wheelsnext.com, this is the website I used to choose Molly's New Wheels. You can upload a pic. of your MINI (side view) and select from their large selection of wheels, from there all you have to do is find the price you are willing to pay from which ever vendor you choose. Good Luck!!
As you can see by Molly's pics...She L@@KS HOT!!

BTW...it took me 1 Year to decide on which wheels, the ones I seemed to always want were being discontinued, so I had to keep looking, WheelsNext made it simple in the end!!

Thanks for the tip! I gave it a try, its definitely a good way to visualize the wheels once you've made a choice but it doesn't really help with choosing a wheel/tire size or with visualizing the offset.

My car looked a little silly with 17s before I lowered it an inch.... I think 16s might look a little better?

I went with 215/45/17s, fills the wheel gap up a little, keeps me off the ground a little extra and adds a little more cushion.

Photo attached is before the 1in drop with the 215/45/17s.

Thanks! That was very helpful. I think it looks perfectly fine like that without a drop, although I'm sure it looks even better now. Did you have any rubbing issues with those tires? What's the offset on those wheels?

They are 17x7s with a 45 offest. No rubbing issues whatsoever.

Cool, thanks. I think I'm getting the hang of this, so the 215/45/17's are a little wider than the stock 205/45/17's, and the 45 offset means the wheels stick out a little more than most stock wheels which have an offset of 48?

I think they're a little wider and have more sidewall too. This might help you some: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

As for offset, I'm not really sure. I just bought what OutMotoring recommended for those wheels.

Yardley, you can also check out a Tire Conversion Calculator like the one @ www.miata.net for tire size comparisons, it won't help with Offset, but gives you an idea of stock size vs. what Tire Size you are looking at.

The 42mm offset wheel will stick out 6mm or 0.236" more than the 48mm wheel
