So my JCW seems to more than burble on overrun, it backfires half the time. Any suggestions on how to minimize that without removing the burbles?

 

The backfires/pops are a result of excess gas being ignited in the exhaust stream. I don't think there is a way to lessen this while keeping the burble.

I do know that depending on how I drive the car I can get it to backfire when I want and not when I want.

 

Yep, have figured that out as well. Though sometimes that extra push is warranted and then all of a sudden some jackass cuts you off and you let off and pow. Guess that's good for their pant stain ;0

 

I love using this in parking lots and driving down my street hehe.

 

Would be nice to be able to turn this "feature off". I have a problem with "engineered quirks".

 

You can not use the Sport button.

Im running this tank with it off in an effort to see if it effects my MPG.

Sooo hard to not turn it on

It's not a quirk. It was a highly demanded "feature".

 

It's a highly demanded engineered quirk! I want the sport features but not the exhaust fart. Bit of a douche factor.

Stick with your civic if you don't want it to sound like a highly tuned sports car. The burble is what made the '05 and '06 minis so much more than a "mee too" car.

 

I actually like the burble, its the little backfire that is kind of annoying, particularly because it was "engineered". I'm a bit old school in a sense that a backfire indicated a poorly tuned engine (my old 1950 Ford would do that).

 

It cracks me up - must be a purely british thing as my Triumph bikes have all done it and everyone raves about the overrun. I find it too much sometimes, but generally like the burble from the mini - the bikes, too much (especially with aftermarket pipes).

 

I've only gotten one backfire ever, and have been trying to figure out how it happened. I love the burble on overrun and growl on shifts.

 

Wouldn't a highly tuned sports car NOT have excess fuel being dumped into the pipes? Whenever I hear exhaust pops, my mind goes back to my sportbike days where that meant you had an exhaust leak or your mixture was off...

I know it is an aural aesthetic preference, but do most people associate backfiring with a well tuned engine? How about shooting fire out of the pipes?

and blows things up/apart.
