Want to upgrade the 195/55/16 run flats
Can I run a 205/50/16 on the stock MCS rims? It seems like theres a much bigger selection of tires in this size than the other. What's a good performance tire? I live in california so I don't really need an all season tire.
No problem. Been running them for years. You speedometer will still be correct, or close enough.
Depends upon how long you want the tires to last. If all out traction is your main concern then a tire with a treadwear of 200 or less would be the way to go. If tread life is a concern then look for higher treadwear numbers, the higher the number the longer they will last, usually.
A tire with a 140 or 200 number might be worn out in 2000 - 4000 miles. A tire with a 400 number could last 40000 miles. Life is full of trade offs, traction vs treadwear.

The Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec is said to be a great summer tire, if
a bit on the noisy side, especially as it wears down.
They're what I'm aiming for when my current tires run out, unless something
better comes along in the mean time.

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec = treadwear 200
Falken Azenis RT-615K = treadwear 200 another great tire, was quiet right up to when the tread completely disappeared. They were abused on the track and auto-x events.

I don't think they are discontinued. Tire Rack still has them http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Z1SS&tab=Sizes
Here is another good choice; http://www.vulcantire.com/cgi-bin/ti...&f=fk452_t.cst

Dunlop, like most tire manufacturers, usually doesn't discontinue a tire model until they have a replacement ready, and they don't appear to.
Tire rack has plenty in 205/50/16 at the moment, as mentioned above.
