Some planning questions.....

Is Robbinxville the closest town? We are staying in a cabin and plan to make our own meals. We are looking for:

1. The nearest grocery store other than the general store at Fontana Village.
2. A coin-op carwash. We CANNOT embarass ourselves with a dirty MINI. The wash area at Fontana was too crowded during the day and too cold early in the morning

Are gas prices higher at Fontana? Should we plan to fill up in Maryville? Thanks

Robbinsville is the closest thing to a real town from Fontana. Although not brimming with choices there is a grocery store, at least one pharmacy and a few good places to get gas. It is about a 20 to 30 minute trek from Fontana down to Robinsville. If you need something specific though, better just to pack it in from home.

Sadly I am usually at the wash area freezing my fingers off so no clue about an auto-wash. I am going to guess and say though that there is not even one in Robinsville. I would say either freeze with us, or hope for good weather.

And yes, gas cost more anywhere inside of that Robinsville area. If you can fill up as you are coming down through Alcoa TN, just before you make the turn onto HWY129.

Robbinsville has a coin operated power wash station (wand type). Past McDonalds and down from the gas stations.

Most people use the wash station at fontana. Depends what you are looking for and hiw muddy you get.

Since the gas has to trucked in further, gas prices are far more expensive. Plan on fueling at Marysville or Robbinsville for the best value.

Largest grocery store is in marysville. Robbinsville is okay, just not as a large.

Thannks. That helps alot. We are just looking for basics at the grocery and the spray wash sounds better than frost bite at the Fontana wash!

If you pick up a thick pair of lined rubber gloves at Lowes or Home Depot the Fontana car wash is just fine. The kind that run 1/2 way up your arm.

I wash my car outside all year long and I am right outside of Philly PA.
It gets cold here and I have even washed my car with snow all around me.

The closest Walmart is in Murphy. I did a quick search on yahoo for "Robbinsville NC Bait" and it came up with:
Yellow Branch Bait and Tackle-828-479-1480
Ron's Bait and Tackle - 828-479-4467

If they don't have want to need, I would ask them if they no someone that might.

The Dragon Wash is just fine, ya sissy!

Kinda gotta agree with Snooter, though. A little brake dust just shows you've "been there"...

thanks for the info...I called Ron's Bait and Tackle and the number is disconnected...and Yellow Branch Bait and Tackle do not carry crickets because they can't keep them alive!

I did find Bryant Bait and tackle at 18154 Wayah road Topton NC..she said she is near Natahallah lake? is that very far from Fontana Village?
